East African Magazines, publishers of Drum, True Love, Move! Twende & About Kenya magazines wish to strengthen our staff complement by recruiting results-oriented, dynamic and self driven individuals, who have a track record of achievement in past roles in the following positions.
SUB-EDITOR (JOB REF: HR-SE-02-10)
(Responsibilities)
• Edit, sub-edit and proof-read copy for the magazine, its various supplements and special projects
• Ensure the style is a perfect fit for the publication’s target market
• Make a fresh and creative contribution to the content and its presentation
• Write and rewrite stories for use in magazines
• Transform content to become informative, inspirational and entertaining
• Make quick, rational, informed decisions on copy(Qualifications , skills & experience)
• A minimum of five years’ relevant work experience, preferably in a magazine publishing environment
• At least a bachelor’s degree – postgraduate diploma an added advantage (though not a requirement)
• Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign and mastery of MS Word
• A good command of the English language
• Work under pressure, consistently and meet deadlines without supervision

• Executing fresh assignments related to current affairs and social issues, as well as interviews and features thatappeal to the readers.
• Producing topical, thoroughly researched and well-constructed stories and features for print
• Re-writing, adapting and editing existing material to make it suitable for and relevant to the target market
• Providing editorial and logistical support to ensure that editorial standards and deadlines are met for individualtitles
• Developing a knowledge base and a database of contacts through continuous networking
• Keeping abreast of news, current affairs, business, technology and other social trends in the region andbeyond covering a broad scope of topics; and generating fresh content ideas individually or with the rest of the
team
• Production & operational support to the editorial team(Qualifications , skills & experience)
• A degree in journalism or similar qualification;
• At least 3 -5 years editorial experience, with the emphasis on news reporting, feature writing and editing
• Must have a track record of generating story ideas on his/her own within a team environment
• Possess excellent English language skills, both written and oral and in particular, be a concise and clearcommunicator with diverse audiences and target groups; and
• A good knowledge of issues relating to the East African community
• Should possess good time management skills, self-motivation, versatility and problem-solving skills
