Key Duties/Responsibilities:
Assist the Program Engineer in all aspects of Watsan program planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
To assist in mapping community water, hygiene and sanitation needs
Develops BoQs for water and sanitation programs and supervises work of contractors
Conducts water quality testing
To assess the water and sanitation training needs of the community and assists in the development of appropriate training materials and plans
Sensitizes the community to the relationship between health and good hygiene and sanitation practices and on good personal and family hygiene practices, with an emphasis on children, and provides education on how to improve domestic hygiene; Trains families with latrines in their use, maintenance, and cleaning
Conducts public health education on water and excreta diseases transmission and prevention, including epidemic outbreak management
Provides technical assistance to the Program Engineer and local counterparts (County WES teams, County Health Departments) on issues of water and sanitation information and communication strategies
Assists in the establishment, and training of water source committees as well as monitoring their performance.
Trains and supervises the activities of community based pump technicians, latrine technicians and masons
Liaises with the ARC health team on a regular basis to coordinate water and sanitation activities among sectors
Assists in the compilation of monthly Watsan reports, program documents, project proposals, and budgets
Performs any other duties as requested by the Program Engineer
Requirements:
· Higher diploma in civil or water engineering
· Previous work experience in community based water and Sanitation programs with an NGOs.
· Must have knowledge of emergency Water supply, Hygiene and Sanitation requirements and protocols; Familiarity with international minimum standards of Hygiene and Sanitation service delivery (i.e., SPHERE) is an advantage
· Must have previous experience in training and Training of Trainers.
· Excellent communication skills – written and spoken – in English required. Knowledge of Juba Arabic, Madi & Acholi is an advantage.
· Must be willing to work as a team member, take direction, and share technical skills with colleagues and counterparts.
· Computer literacy in word processing and spreadsheets is desirable.
Must be willing to live under difficult physical and security conditions.
