TRAFFIC MANAGER (ONE POST)


The Tanzania Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) is a statutory institution owned by the two Governments of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Republic of Zambia on a so-so basis. The Authority is incorporated by the Acts of Parliament of the two contracting states, with its Registered Office and Headquarters being in Oar es Salaam, in the United Republic of Tanzania. The Authority has two Regional Administrative Centres, one in Mpika, Zambia and the other in Oar es Salaam, Tanzania. TAZARA is inviting applications from suitably qualified citizens of Tanzania and Zambia to fill the following positions.

Location: Head Office, Dear es Salaam

Reporting to Managing Director, the successful candidate shall develop, implement, control and coordinate traffic policies, plans standards and specifications in order to improve the efficiency of the system's traffic operations.

DUTIES

Duties will include developing plans, policies, specifications, standards and procedures, designed to enhance the performance of the transportation system, as well as implementation of such plans to ensure consistent and economical traffic operations meeting marketing and customer demands.

Other duties include coordination of regional transportation activities with Headquarters and advising management on all facets of traffic operations at all levels, in a consultative capacity. Traffic Manager will also evaluate, through reviews, the adequacy and effectiveness of existing transportation facilities with a view to initiating improvements in goods and passenger trains in terms of service provision and system expansion to cope with traffic trends. The Traffic Manager is also accountable for the initiation and implementation of practical time tables, traffic operating Rules and Regulations, review of freight trains marshalling procedures for the safe and efficient operations of all trains. The traffic manager is required to liaise with Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Marketing, Signalling and Telecommunications departments, on motive power availability, capacity track condition, anticipated market size, and signals performance in order to plan and determine optimal traffic operational parameters across the system.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• BSc Degree in Transport/Economics and or appropriate professional qualification with at least 5 years work

• experience in similar position or at Senior Management level.
