ROLE DEFINITION:
To provide HIV/AIDS nursing care and supportive care services to children and their care providers attending the Children's Clinical Center of Excellence (COE), and to support health professional training activities conducted through the Baylor-Tanzania program.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Registered or enrolled nurse with a minimum of 3 years experience, preferably in pediatrics
• Registered by the Tanganyika Nurses and Midwives Council
• Training in HIVlAIDS from a recognized institution
• Excellent communication and writing skills in English and Kiswahili with the ability to work as part of a team
• Computer skills, especially in data entry/work processing p plus
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• To provide basic assessment and triage Le. monitoring and recording vital signs, growth and development monitoring; including weight and height assessment using plotted growth charts
• Identify patients who need immediate attention
• Assist doctors to do investigations and procedures
• Attend COE meetings
• Ensure smooth flow of patients to different areas of the unit
• To support patients and their caregivers by providing information about HIVlAIDS and helping them to problem solve to optimize their care and treatment
• To identify cases for referral and discuss:on with other members of Baylor-Tanzania care and treatment team to provide enhanced patient care
• Assist in escorting patients to their referral units/wards
• To support health professional training activities regarding general pediatric and HIVIAIDS care and treatment
• To provide technical assistance to health care providers in pediatric and general HIV/AIDS prevention, diagnosis, care, treatment and complications both within the COE as well as in outside facilities
