AfriNIC is the Registry for Internet Number Resources for Africa, and the Indian Ocean region. AfriNIC is a non-governmental, and not for profit organisation registered in Mauritius to provide Internet number resource management and some coordination services to ISP in Africa and Indian Ocean. AfriNIC also develops and operates user services for its members across the continent, and serves the Internet community as a whole by providing registration services for number resources allocated in its service region.
AfriNIC is now hiring a Communications Area Manager. This position is based in our Mauritius Headquarters.
General Functions:
The position involves developing and coordinating AfriNIC’s communications functions in connection with members, the community and other organisations.
Work closely with the CEO and the rest of AfriNIC team to ensure that AfriNIC’s mission and policies are communicated clearly to the members, and that the services required and requested by the members are provided, and promoted in an efficient and timely manner. Proactively develop programs and products to both encourage active participation of current members and attract new membership. Facilitate outreach opportunities for AfriNIC in the Internet Community. Communicate members’ input to the CEO and staff and participate in their analysis.
Background / Skills Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing or a related field of study, or equivalent work experience.
- Previous trade association or non-profit environment experience, a minimum of 10 years experience in a similar position is desirable.
- Previous experience in the ICT sector in general, with preference awarded to those familiar with the operations of Internet Service Providers or Network Operators.
- Minimum 5 years supervisory experience in a Communication, Publication or similar environment.
- Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to define objectives, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
- A general understanding of Internet economics and its governance model, working knowledge of TCP/IP, IPv4 and IPv6, and a good understanding of the AfriNIC policy development process.
- Ability to implement policy and program directives.
- Computer skills including Office Suite and Communications tools.
- Ability to work fluently in English and French.
- Ability to travel to various meetings and/or international events as required.
