Background

The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) has a well-established Sudan Operations Center (SDOC). Current SDOC operations are largely focused on assisting partners with the implementation of physical infrastructure projects including designing, constructing and rehabilitating roads and bridges, schools, clinics and Government and Ministry offices. SDOC also procures goods and services for a number of partners and provides logistics and operational support to institutions in Sudan with the overall objective to build peace and to promote the implementation of the CPA. 
UNOPS SDOC works with various United Nations partners including the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Multi-Donor Trust Fund (MDTF), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the World Bank.

UNOPS SDOC is in the process of negotiating with donors on a number of new projects both in the North (including Darfur) and South Sudan. SDOC is thus soliciting applications from experts qualified in Project Management.

Duties and Responsibilities

Logistics Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Logistics/Operations Officer. The incumbent will be responsible for performing the following duties and responsibilities.
  • Responsible for receipt, inventory, storage arrangements, record keeping and disbursement of office and project equipment/supplies in accordance with UNOPS rules and regulations.
  • Responsible for identification of maintenance needs of office building(s)/premises, vehicles, furniture, equipment and utilities, and for prompt reporting of said needs to the supervisor.
  • Assist in the upgrading and maintenance of office building(s)/premises, vehicles, furniture, equipment, and utilities.
  • Assist in arranging for clearance of the consignments such as preparing Tax Exemption Certificates and necessary permits from Government.
  • Assist in the supervision of cleaners, guards, and compound staff.
  • Assist in preparation of workshops, seminars, and training.
  • Performs other relevant duties as required.

Required Selection Criteria

  • Proficiency in a Logistics/Procurement or similar environment.
  • Customer oriented and service minded.
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity, including gender balance.

  • Ability to work long hours in fast-paced, often stressful environment.

Education/Experience/Language

  • Secondary Education is must.
  • Specialized certification in the relevant field is must.
  • Minimum 3 – 5 years experience in logistics, procurement and other relevant field preferably with UN or other international organization.
  • University degree is desirable.
  • Computer literate, thorough knowledge of MS Office and other computer software applications and office equipments in use.
  • Knowledge of ATLAS asset and inventory module will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of UN rules and regulations will be considered an asset.
  • Fluency in oral/written English and Local Language.
