Food Security & Livelihoods Improvement Programme (FSLIP) – Vacancies based in Kapoeta

FARM-Africa is an international NGO committed to improving the lives of marginal farmers & herders through innovative natural resource management approaches. We are currently seeking to recruit 5 professional staff members for a new project in Eastern Equatoria State.

Food Security & Livelihoods Improvement Programme (FSLIP) – All posts based in Kapoeta


1) PROJECT COORDINATOR (JOB REF: FS/PRO)

Purpose:
  • To manage the planning, implementation, monitoring & reporting of all aspects of the FARM-Africa FSLIP.
  • To represent the FSLIP & FARM-Africa to the Kapoeta County & Eastern Equatoria State authorities & SNV project partners at the field level.

Key responsibilities:
  1. To manage the project in accordance with project documents, work plans & budgets & ensure that work is consistent with FARM-Africa’s strategies & the conditions of donor contracts.
  2. To line manage the project staff.
  3. To build the capacity of collaborating government staff & community beneficiaries.
  4. To explore & nurture mutually beneficial partnerships with other stakeholders. 

Qualifications, experience & competencies:
ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE
  • Bachelor degree in a relevant subject
  • Knowledge of the agriculture & animal health sectors in Southern Sudan
  • At least 3 years senior management experience
  • Project management
  • Financial management
  • Team building
  • Participatory planning, monitoring & evaluation
  • Negotiating & managing partner relationships
  • Report & proposal writing
  • Masters degree in agriculture or livestock development
  • Previous NGO work experience in Southern Sudan
  • Procurement & logistics in difficult environments
  • Field level training
  • Capacity building of organisations/individuals

2) PROJECT ACCOUNTANT/ADMINISTRATOR (JOB REF: FS/ACC)

Purpose:
  1. To ensure a high standard of financial management & adherence to financial procedures in the FARM-Africa FSLIP.

Key responsibilities:
  1. To ensure compliance with the basic standards contained in the FARM-Africa finance procedures manual. 
  2. To maintain comprehensive & up-to-date project financial records.   
  3. To assist the Project Coordinator with budgeting & reporting.
  4. To perform routine administrative & logistical tasks.
  5. To ensure safe custody of project assets.   

Qualifications, experience & competencies:
ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE
  • Recognised accounting qualification e.g. CPA (K) or ACCA (minimum level 2)
  • Previous work experience in Southern Sudan
  • Project accounting & fund management
  • Computer literacy (Quickbooks/Sun)
  • Communication, both written & verbal
  • First degree in a relevant subject
  • Financial reporting to donors
  • Logistics experience including flights/cargo
  • Purchasing/procurement systems
  • Planning
  • Valid motorcycle license & off-road motorcycle driving experience


3) PROJECT OFFICER – ANIMAL HEALTH (JOB REF: FS/HEA)

Purpose:
  1. To establish, implement & monitor the livestock component of the FSLIP. 

Key responsibilities:
  1. To establish sustainable animal health delivery services and livestock marketing infrastructure in the project area.
  2. To explore & nurture mutually beneficial partnerships with other stakeholders  

Qualifications, experience & competencies:
ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE
  • Bachelor degree in a relevant subject (preferably a veterinarian)
  • Knowledge of the development environment in Southern Sudan
  • Experience of animal disease surveillance & monitoring systems
  • Participatory training methodologies
  • Monitoring & evaluation
  • Documentation & dissemination
  • Communication, both written & verbal
  • Knowledge of animal health policy in Southern Sudan
  • Experience of livestock marketing approaches & infrastructure
  • Previous NGO work experience in rural development
  • Training community animal health workers
  • Planning
  • Policy influencing
  • Research data analysis
  • Valid motorcycle license & off-road motorcycle driving experience


4) PROJECT OFFICER – MONITORING & EVALUATION (JOB REF: FS/MON)

Purpose:
  1. To develop & implement a participatory monitoring & evaluation strategy for the FSLIP.

Key responsibilities:
  1. To develop a monitoring & evaluation framework for the FSLIP.
  2. To build the capacity of the project staff, partners, associates & other stakeholders to enable them to collect all the necessary information in relation to the agreed indicators.
  3. To document lessons learned which will contribute to the development & scaling up of FARM-Africa’s livelihood improvement programs.

Qualifications, experience & competencies:
ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE
  • Educated to degree level in a relevant subject e.g. international development, agriculture
  • Knowledge of the development & policy environment in Southern Sudan
  • At least 2 years relevant work experience
  • Excellent writing & analytical skills
  • Project planning, monitoring & evaluation including simple logical frameworks
  • Quantitative & qualitative research techniques
  • Data collection, entry & analysis
  • Proficiency in MS Office & SPSS/other statistical software packages
  • Previous NGO work experience in rural development
  • Valid motorcycle license & off-road motorcycle driving experience
  • Participatory methodologies
  • Capacity building of organisations & individuals
  • Strategic planning
  • Impact assessment

5) PROJECT OFFICER – NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT & PEACE BUILDING (JOB REF: FS/NRP)

Purpose:
  • To establish, implement & monitor the natural resources management & peace building initiatives of the FSLIP.

Key responsibilities:
  1. To lead the Farmer Participatory Research component of the FSLIP.
  2. To facilitate community level land & natural resource use planning, incorporating traditional conflict resolution mechanisms & approaches.
  3. To identify & establish 13 livestock watering points.

Qualifications, experience & competencies:
ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE
  • Educated to degree level in a relevant subject e.g. development, agriculture
  • Knowledge of the development environment in Southern Sudan
  • Experience of farmer participatory research & the farmer field school approach
  • Excellent writing & analytical skills
  • Participatory training methodologies
  • Natural resource use planning & management
  • Quantitative & qualitative research techniques
  • Documentation & dissemination
  • Knowledge of environmental policy in Southern Sudan
