Jhpiego is an international non-profit health organization affiliated with the Johns Hopkins University. For 35 years, Jhpiego has empowered front-line health workers by designing and implementing effective, low-cost, hands-on solutions to strengthen the delivery of health care services for women and their families. By putting evidence-based health innovations into everyday practice, Jhpiego works to break down barriers to high-quality health care for the world's most vulnerable populations. Jhpiego is implementing a number of projects in Tanzaania and wishes to fill the following positions:
MIDWIFERY ADVISOR - based in Dar es Salaam
Specific qualifications:
• Qualification as a midwife required; advanced degree desirable
• At least 7 years work experience in reproductive and maternal and child health programs with progressively increasing responsibilities
• Prior training experience; excellent classroom and clinical training skills including participatory and experiientiallearning methods
• Knowledge of strategic planning, training program development, implementation, management and monitoring and evaluation
• Current knowledge in the field of maternal and child health, including infection prevention, antenatal care, family planning, PMTCT of HIV, essential and emergency maternal and newborn care, ete.
• Demonstrated self-management (motivation, dealing with pressure, adaptability, etc.)
• Availability and willingness to travel up to 50% time
Responsibilities:
• Ensure that program strategies are based on sound technical content and are sustainable
• In all programs, place special emphasis on use of performance and quality improvement approaches in clinical sites
• Actively participate in national maternal health and newborn health policy and strategy discussions as appropriate
• Assist in the assessment of training and service delivery needs in maternal and newborn health and in the design and implementation of appropriate, evidence-based interventions to meet them
• Assist in the development and implementation of training programs, including materials, curricula, and assessment tools; serve as lead or co-trainer with colleagues from Ministry of Health & Social Welfare (MoHSW) and/or other organizations
• Contribute to building of local capacity through mentoring of counterparts at the MoHSW midwifery educational institutions, and other stakeholder groups
Document activities including challenges, successes and lessons learned
