Purpose of the Position
Under the general guidance of the Chief of Young Child Survival and Development and the direct supervision of the Health Manager and the HIV and AIDS Coordinator, you will be responsible for the development, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Prevention of Mother-to-child Transmission (PMTCT) and Paediatric AIDS components. To be an active member of the UN joint team on HIV and AIDS, and raising the profile of PMTCT and Paediatric AIDS in Tanzania’s National HIV Response, through high level advocacy and broad partnerships with the Tanzania AIDS Commission (TACAIDS), the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MoHSW), the UN Joint Programme on HIV and AIDS, and throughout the UNDAP process. Ensure that children’s issues are effectively positioned in the national programme and high level policy dialogue on PMTCT and Paediatric AIDS in Development Partners’ Group on AIDS (DPG – AIDS). Responsible for capacity building of national and sub-national implementing partners to promote and scale up PMTCT and Paediatric AIDS interventions.
Key Expected Results
1. Timely sectoral analysis, input, support and collaboration to the Situation Analysis and its periodic update made for effective project planning, development and management.
2. Knowledge management effectively promoted through drafting/finalizing key HIV andAIDS sectoral programme documents and reports, sharing good practice, lessons learned, and knowledge/information exchange.
3. Quality of rights-based HIV and AIDS projects /programmes effectively promoted, and coherence, synergy and value added to project management process through results-based management.
4. Sectoral work plan and activities formulated, implemented and monitored, ensuring alignment with the defined project strategies and approaches.
5. Programme delivery, evaluation and reporting carried out efficiently, rigorously and transparently in compliance with the established guidelines and procedures.
6. UNICEF’s global goals effectively promoted through advocacy and policy dialogue in the HIV/AIDS sector.
7. Proper and timely UNICEF and Government accountability ensured regarding supply and non-supply assistance as well as disbursement of programme funds for the HIV and AIDS sector.
8. Effective communication and networking achieved through partnership and collaboration.
Qualifications of Successful Candidate
Advanced university degree in one or more of the disciplines: Public Health, Primary Health Care, Pediatrics AIDS, Medicine, Social Sciences or a field relevant to international development assistance in HIV and AIDS.
Five of relevant professional work experience. Experience working in the UN or other international development organization is an advantage
Advanced knowledge of latest technology in:- Child-maternal health and PMCT of HIV and AIDS
- HIV and AIDS health care
- Adolescent Development
- HIV and AIDS Pandemic preparedness
- Infectious diseases control
- Behavior change communication and community approaches
- Fluency in English and another UN language.
