Background
| UNOPS provides project management services for clients in a range of fields where UN has a mandate. The Sudan Operations Center was established in 2004 to provide client services throughout Sudan. UNOPS has been engaged by various Donors and Government Agencies for the procurement & logistics support services and implementation of infrastructure development projects in Sudan. On 10 April 2007 UNOPS and the Multi Donor Trust Fund, along with the Ministry of Transport and Roads entered into a Memorandum of Agreement for the rehabilitation and construction of the Yambio-Maridi-Farasika road corridor. As per the agreement UNOPS is the implementing agency to undertake the feasibility study, detailed design and construction for the reconstruction of the Farasika-Maridi-Yambio road corridor, along with allocated funding for the feasibility study and detailed design of Tambura-Wau road corridor. In Southern Sudan, after decades of civil war, infrastructure is virtually non-existent. The overall aim of the MDTF project is to assist the government in the construction and rehabilitation of the 170 kilometers of road that connects Farasika to Yambio in an effort to increase road connectivity and access throughout the South Sudan. |
