Background

UNOPS provides project management services for clients in a range of fields where UN has a mandate. The Sudan Operations Center was established in 2004 to provide client services throughout Sudan. UNOPS has been engaged by various Donors and Government Agencies for the procurement & logistics support services and implementation of infrastructure development projects in Sudan. 
On 10 April 2007 UNOPS and the Multi Donor Trust Fund, along with the Ministry of Transport and Roads entered into a Memorandum of Agreement for the rehabilitation and construction of the Yambio-Maridi-Farasika road corridor. As per the agreement UNOPS is the implementing agency to undertake the feasibility study, detailed design and construction for the reconstruction of the Farasika-Maridi-Yambio road corridor, along with allocated funding for the feasibility study and detailed design of Tambura-Wau road corridor. In Southern Sudan, after decades of civil war, infrastructure is virtually non-existent. The overall aim of the MDTF project is to assist the government in the construction and rehabilitation of the 170 kilometers of road that connects Farasika to Yambio in an effort to increase road connectivity and access throughout the South Sudan.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision and reporting to the Project Assistant, the incumbent of the post is required to perform the following specific duties and responsibilities: 
  • Transportation of authorized personnel to and from their assigned offices or working stations.
  • Maintenance of the assigned vehicle clean and in good shape at all times.
  • Carry out day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle and checking oils, battery electrolyte, brakes, tyres and etc and performing minor repairs as may be required.
  • Report all mechanical faults at once and checking for maintenance records.
  • Log official trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, oil changes, greasing and etc.
  • Carry and use radio for communication, and carrying out tasks as directed by the Admin Assistant.
  • Ensures that steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accident.
  • Must be aware of south Sudan map and specially Maridi and Yambio all ministries, guest houses, commercial buildings, agencies and restaurants.
  • Perform other project related duties.

Required Selection Criteria

Competencies 
  • Personal interest, commitment, efficiency, flexibility and willingness to work in a highly motivated team of professionals of varying cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to adapt to a challenging working environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and with clearly defined timeframes.
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair.
  • Ability to travel and work in remote areas of South Sudan with limited facilities and difficult working conditions.

Education/Experience/Language

  • Secondary School certificate is desirable.
  • Driver's license is must.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Good knowledge of the local languages.
  • Must be fluent in English, written and oral.
