Technical Service Manager
Reports to: Director, Broadcast & Studio Operations
Description
This position is responsible for managing the organization Broadcast Technical Operations in Nairobi.
Responsibilities:
- This position requires a 'hands on" management style to lead, motivate and challenge the team.
- Responsible for the 24/7 management and organization of all Broadcast Technicians and the Broadcast System Administrator.
- Team Management: develop and maintain a highly motivated and productive team to meet department objectives and deadlines through the effective hiring, coaching, training and motivating the team to foster a team environment.
- Create and implement policies and procedures that relate to the technical operations.
- Ensure these policies and procedures are understood, communicated and carried out by all employees.
- Establish and maintain standards for technical operations and execution.
- Manage broadcast repairs and maintenance.
- Performance Management: provide ongoing employee feedback and communication.
- Ensure performance evaluations are completed prior to due date (probationary and annual reviews).
- Responsible for addressing employee issues and concerns as they arise.
- Each fiscal year, create and implement a documented Training Plan for employees.
- Monitor the training needs of existing employees and ensure new employees meet the required standards.
- Responsible for employee scheduling (i.e. vacation time and sick time).
- Ensure timesheets are accurately completed and submitted to Payroll in a timely manner.
- Responsible for maintaining a bank of three to four on-call employees.
- Manage the technical operational budget for the organization.
- Ensure operational activities comply with organization license conditions.
- Recommend operational changes to the Director, Broadcast Operations, when necessary, to improve the overall day-to-day operations.
- Responsible for the Health and Safety of the team.
- Responsibilities and duties may evolve and change over time.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a College/Bachelor Degree/Diploma in Electronics related field.
- 5+ years experience in a management role, including managing a team.
- A minimum of five (5+) years related experience in maintenance and repair of broadcast audio and video equipment is essential.
- Working knowledge of all areas of broadcasting from ENG/EFP cameras to Master Control, fiber optics and multi media is required.
- Knowledge of computer equipment, especially servers and software (AutoCAD, MS Office, Windows and Unix/Linux OS) is also essential.
- Demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines in a dynamic studio environment
- VSATs and wireless technologies
- Radio [Medium wave, Short wave and FM] and Television [VHF and UHF] transmitters
- Microwave links, UHF/VHF links, studio, outside broadcast and satellite broadcast equipment competency.
