Project Officer – Water

PRACTICAL ACTION
Practical Action is an international development agency working with
poor communities to help them choose and use technology to improve
their lives today and in generations to come.

We are seeking to recruit a results-oriented and proactive team player
to fill the following position

Project Officer – Water
Based in Lodwar

Reporting to the Area Coordinator for Karamoja Cluster, the successful
candidate will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of
water project activities within the area and specifically for
designing and implementing strategies that enable the communities to
effectively and profitably manage water resources within the cluster
while adding value to the existing environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage the Drought Mitigation project in Turkana
Supervise and deliver/implement water projects in the Karamoja Cluster
Design and supervise water sub-sector interventions
Ensure the use of appropriate technologies in water interventions
Play lead roles in developing and testing new technologies
Supervise and mentor other staff within the sub-sector
Provide linkage and liaison roles in WESCORD
Develop and review relevant project documents for information sharing
Undertake needs assessments whenever necessary
Effectively monitor and evaluate water and sanitation projects with a
view to informing the implementation process and keep the desired
project outputs in perspective.
Build local capacity e.g. water user groups for efficient water management
Play active role in community contracting and partnerships’ development

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Education: at least a first degree in Water Engineering or any other
relevant field.
At least three years of relevant field work experience in water and
sanitation management, natural resource/environment conservation.

OTHER COMPETENCIES
Good understanding of dry land biodiversity
Ability to think strategically and function well even under pressure
Proven written and communication skills
Good command of spoken and written English language and fluency in Kiswahili
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Willingness to travel, live and work in remote ASAL areas.
