Epilepsy Trainings

Youth on the Move, an organization for and from youth living with epilepsy, invites you for free participation in their Epilepsy Trainings in Nairobi West.

In Kenya, 2% of people have or have had epilepsy. Unfortunately there is a lot of fear for the condition due to the misconceptions, whereas you can live a normal life with it. Many Kenyans confuse epilepsy with witchcraft, demon possession, a worm in the brain and they often think it is contagious although epilepsy is a neurological condition that makes people prone to seizures. The consequences of the misunderstanding is that people with epilepsy in Kenya are often set apart and excluded from school, work and church despite their need for extra support during and after an epilepsy fit. Meantime they also need extra support to develop self esteem to stand up for their own rights and needs to participate fully in the society.

Would you like to learn more about epilepsy and how you can offer guidance to a person who has the condition? Youth on the Move offers free Epilepsy Training for four mornings on a monthly basis. The training participants are receiving their certificates once they completed the course.

Kelvin King'oo: I am very grateful for the skills and knowledge I was able to gain during my time at the Youth on the Move on the epilepsy and its treatment because I was able to help someone here in town who had got the seizures, many people ran away from her but I was able to give the first aid. I think I will find time to come back and continue.
