The Aga Khan University, Nairobi Career Opportunity: Executive Director


Chartered in 1983, the Aga Khan University (AKU) is committed to excellence in education, research and service.

The Faculty of Arts and Sciences in East Africa (FAS EA) will form the largest component of the Principal Campus of the Aga Khan University in East Africa.

This new regional institution, situated in Arusha, Tanzania, aims at academic planning, design and construction for opening by 2016. The planning team is based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Applications are invited from appropriately qualified candidates for the position of 
Executive Director.
The Position

Reporting to the Head of Academic Planning, FAS EA, the Executive Director will support the planning team in the achievement of a range of innovative strategic goals and objectives, through the provision of administrative and operational services. S/he will ensure the smooth transition from a start-up operation to a fully fledged institution.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and streamline systems and procedures for the administration of FAS EA Academic Planning office, in close liaison with the FAS EA Facilities Planning office;
  • Lead the overall management of the FAS office including procurement and operational activities;
  • Develop budgets in liaison with the Academic Planning Team and the Finance department. This includes establishing and maintaining processes for regular monitoring of financial and programmatic targets;
  • In liaison with the Human Resource Department, develop and implement the FAS, EA Human Resource Development Strategy;
  • Support the Head, Academic Planning, in collaborating and liaising with all relevant entities of the Aga Khan University and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN);
  • Support the Resource Mobilisation initiatives of the Academic Planning team by tracking progress of grants.
Requirements
  • A Masters Degree in a relevant field;
  • At least ten (10) years of experience, five (5) of which must be in senior management positions. Administrative experience in an academic setting will be an added advantage;
  • Excellent ICT skills;
  • Excellent planning, organisational and team-building skills;
  • Ability to balance the need for continual innovation and the rigours of planning and institution-building;
  • Ability to network with a multiplicity of local and international stakeholders;
