Transport Assistant


Introduction
Danish Demining Group (DDG) is an international NGO and a part of the Danish Refugee Council. DDG has been operating in South Sudan since 2006 in the sectors of Humanitarian Mine Action and Armed Violence Reduction.  We currently have offices in Juba and Torit and employ approximately 100 national staff and 7 international staff.

Purpose of the Transport Assistant role
The Transport Assistant will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of DDG’s vehicle fleet (currently around 15 vehicles).  The specific tasks that must be performed are outlined below:

·           Maintain electronic and paper-based vehicle records for vehicle usage, fuel management, running costs, maintenance, registration etc
·           Help assign duties and work schedules to drivers ensuring they carry out regular vehicle checks and maintain vehicle-based records
·           Coordinate the workload of DDG’s mechanics
·           Conduct periodic checks on vehicles for malfunction and damage and report same to Logistics Manager (LM)
·           Ensure all vehicles have functioning radios and other appropriate equipment including first aid kits
·           Maintain schedules for regular vehicle maintenance, renewal of logbooks etc
·           Liaise with private garages over vehicle maintenance
·           Maintain high standards of driving and vehicle safety, carrying out periodic training as needed
·           Liaise with LM and Logistics Assistant over procurement and stocking of vehicles spares
·           Uphold and implement relevant DDG policies and procedures
·           Occasional driving duties, as required
·           Other logistical tasks as required



Person Specification:

Essential requirements
Ø Educated to secondary school (leaver) level or beyond
Ø At least 3 years’ experience in a similar transport administration role
Ø Demonstrate knowledge of transport management systems
Ø Mechanical knowledge and understanding
Ø Ability to plan ahead and organise
Ø Must be proactive and able to work on own initiative with minimal supervision
Ø Must be accurate and attentive to detail
Ø Proficient in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
Ø Fluent in written and spoken English and have good knowledge of Arabic
Ø Strength of character and ability to command respect from other employees
Ø Strong communication skills
Ø Must be a Sudanese national
Ø Must hold a valid Sudanese driver’s licence
Ø Willing to travel to field locations throughout Southern Sudan

Desirable
Ø Relevant technical qualifications
Ø Tertiary level education
Ø Advanced mechanical knowledge/qualifications
Ø Previous experience with another international NGO

Suitably-qualified candidates should submit a CV and covering letter in a sealed envelope and hand their application to a guard at the DDG compound in Hai Malakal, Juba by 6 PM on Sunday 25th of July 2010.  Shortlisted candidates are expected to be called for interview on 27th or 28th July.
