Insurance Company of East Africa (ICEA) Communications & Corporate Affairs Manager Job Opportunity

Our client, the Insurance Company of East Africa (ICEA), is a leading composite insurer in the region with an extensive network of branches, subsidiaries and associate companies.

It was recently announced that subject to regulatory approval, ICEA will be merging with Lion of Kenya Insurance Company Limited, a sister company, to form one of East Africa’s largest insurance groups.

It is as a result of a comprehensive strategy to position the merged business as a leading brand that the need to create the above position has arisen.

Reporting to the Managing Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing internal and external communication strategies to position the company as a leading provider of innovative financial solutions within the East African region and beyond.

The main responsibilities of the position will be:
  • Building awareness and understanding of the company’s products and services among customers, business intermediaries and other critical audiences;
  • Enhancing the reputation of the merged business;
  • In conjunction with operating departments, developing and implementing strategies to enhance client relationships and functions;
  • Developing worksite marketing plans and budgets for promotional initiatives and evaluating their effectiveness;
  • Coordinating activities relating to the company’s participation in exhibitions, fairs and shows;
  • Liaising and partnering with media houses, advertising and market research companies to ensure the success of the overall re-branding campaign in an endeavour to build brand equity and loyalty and thereafter maintain and enhance this in support of the company’s growth objectives;
  • Planning and coordinating the company’s public relations activities and Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives;
  • Developing and implementing cost-effective strategies for internal and external communication, making use of the internet, electronic and print media and other channels;
  • Monitoring market and consumer trends to identify emerging needs and habits, as well as opportunities and threats, and work out ways and means of addressing those needs and constraints.
Qualifications and other requirements:

Applications are invited from Kenya citizens who match the following requirements:
  • Hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations or related field; a masters degree would be a definite advantage;
  • Have a minimum of 5 years experience in corporate communications or related activities in a dynamic business environment.
  • Ability to build and maintain extensive networks within the media and PR sphere and be adept at converting these to value for the business.
  • A self-starter with well developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills, capable of working without direct supervision and ability to meet deadlines;
  • Have the proven ability to conceptualise and articulate the company’s position on key issues and build a positive business environment.
