Brief Description

The Flight Safety and Quality Manager shall be responsible for providing guidance and direction for the planning, implementation, operation and monitoring Flight Operations’ Safety Management System (SMS) and Quality Management System (QMS).

Detailed Description
  • To assist in developing, implementing and maintaining a Safety Management System to include and a Flight Data Monitoring System for the airline which ensures that high standards of flight safety performance are achieved, to satisfy the KCAA requirements and the Company’s safety policies;
  • To develop, implement and maintain an efficient Corporate Emergency Response Plan;
  • To assist in developing, implementing and maintaining a Quality Management System which ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, Company procedures and policies.
  • Act as an information conduit to bring safety and quality issues to the attention of management and to deliver safety and quality information to the organization’s staff, contractors and stakeholders.
  • Conduct safety and quality audits, inspections and survey of operational systems, infrastructure and procedures of the company, code-share and alliance partners so as to improve corporate quality and reduce the Company’s operations risk exposure;
  • Ensure corrective and preventative actions identified by quality& safety audits; investigations or other internal reporting mechanisms are undertaken within the agreed time frame;
  • Assist in the continuous improvement of the hazard identification and safety risk assessment schemes and the organization’s SMS and QMS;
  • Keep under constant review improvements in safety equipment, procedures and training and make recommendations as necessary to the Head of Corporate Quality, Safety & Environment so as to ensure that the highest standards of safety and quality are maintained;
  • Liaise as necessary on behalf of the Company with agencies and services based in and outside the various operational bases of the Company;
  • Maintaining an open liaison with manufactures, flight safety organizations, government regulatory bodies (KCAA) and other airlines worldwide.
  • If instructed, investigate any operational accident/incident, or un-serviceability affecting the safety of persons or equipment, aircraft accidents and make appropriate recommendations; to this end he will have access to Company Accident/incident Reports, technical log entries and Voyage Reports having a flight safety connotation;
  • In conjunction with the Head of Corporate Quality, Safety & Environment, attend Quality and Safety meetings and review boards to discuss matters arising from quality and safety audits on an annual schedule.
  • Plan and Coordinate the Flight Safety and Quality budget.
  • In carrying out the above roles the Manager Flight Safety shall put emphasis on the following tasks
  1. Monitoring and maintaining data on incidents and accidents and preparing statistical data for analysis.
  2. Analyse technical data for trends related to hazards, events, occurrences and audit findings
  3. Acting as focal point for awareness and understanding of accident prevention methods.
  4. Dissemination of safety and quality information to all crew and relevant personnel.
Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, Experience
  • The appointed Flight Safety and Quality Manager shall:
  • Technical qualification in the field of aircraft maintenance or flight or ground operations;
  • University graduate with bias in Safety and/or Quality Management or holder of Commercial Pilot’s License.
  • Has successfully completed training in: Quality Management Systems and Safety Management Systems course recognized by KCAA;
  1. Risk Management
  2. Quality Auditing
  3. Accident Investigation
  • At least three years experience in the field of aircraft maintenance or flight operations or aviation safety or similar role at management level;
  • Thorough working knowledge of airline, ramp operation, quality auditing, ICAO and IATA regulations and standards.
  • Proven ability in quality manual writing and writing including the establishment of document control system
  • Experience in establishment of and operation of flight data analysis programme is desirabl
  • Excellent people management skills.
  • Have the respect of the organization.
  • Scientific analytical skills
