Editorial Department

Sub Editors 

Job Ref. HR -SE-05-10

The successful candidates will be responsible for:
  • Checking and correcting editorial copy for facts, accuracy, taste, libel, house- style, language use, clarity, objectivity;
  • Subbing copy to fit without distorting facts or dispensing with salient points;
  • Selecting and cropping pictures and editing captions; and
  • Designing editorial pages as directed.
Knowledge & Skills requirements:
  • A university degree or;
  • A post-graduate diploma in Journalism;
  • 3 to 4 years working experience either as a sub-editor or a reporter;
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and cope with pressure and tight deadlines; and
  • Excellent command of English or Kiswahili.

  • Executing news assignments;
  • Conducting interviews and writing appealing features;
  • Thoroughly researching news stories and writing copy that is factually correct, libel-free and topical; and

  • Three years journalistic experience; and

Assistant Accountant

Key responsibilities of the job:
  • Timely and accurate receipting of cash and cheques from clients;
  • Reconciliation of daily collections and ensuring revenue completeness;
  • Daily banking of collections in line with company policies;
  • Prompt and accurate updating of customers’ accounts and issuing of monthly statements; and
  • Reconciliation of customer accounts.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:
  • Business-related University degree or CPA(K)
  • Must have demonstrable hands-on experience with an accounting system;
  • Knowledge of SAP or DTI publishing system will be an added advantage; and

Corporate Communications Officer

Nation Media Group Ltd, the leading media house in East and Central Africa, wishes to recruit a suitably qualified Corporate Communications Officer.
We invite applicants who are performance driven and possess excellent transferable skills, demonstrable track records of achievement in past roles.

The Role:
The Corporate Communications Officer will report to the Group Head of Corporate Affairs. He / She will work in a team to position and enhance the Nation Media Group’s corporate image and reputation as the Media of Africa for Africa.

Key result areas will include:
  • Working to enhance internal and external communication through various communication platforms;
  • Profiling the Group through positive editorial content and broadcasting of the Group’s business, social and community/charitable events;
  • Evaluating and putting in place effective publicity on commercial promotions, staff and media events for the company and staging and managing various corporate events;
  • Providing the proactive links with all stakeholders to generate goodwill and influence corporate image and productivity;
  • Support the implementation of a Global Reporting Initiative programme and the development of social reporting and accountability documentation including programme development and management;
  • Assist in implementing the group’s customer charter, customer satisfaction surveys and reputation index to enhance and maintain appropriate customer experience;
  • Research and assist implement annual group communication audits and development of mitigating interventions to build on internal and external communication;
  • Manage content generation and regular update for corporate website and intranet;
  • Produce speeches, briefing notes, presentations and other communication material for the Group’s spokespeople; and
  • Plan and implement public visits/orientation to NMG products, staff and facilities.
Skills, knowledge and experience requirement:
  • University degree in Communications; Public Relations; Journalism; Humanities or Social Sciences;
  • Post-graduate training in Public Relations, Marketing and/or Journalism;
  • Proven track record in driving PR and communication activities in medium to large sized organizations;
  • Interpersonal skills with reference to managing the various “publics”;
  • Age bracket of 25 – 35 years;
  • Two or more years of working experience; and
  • Photography and Videography skills will be an added advantage. The appointee can look forward to a very rewarding and challenging career.
