Position: Project Officer – Capacity Building

Location: Nairobi with frequent travel to the field
The Capacity Building Officer will work closely with the Prisons Project Manager in developing and strengthening capacity building component for the Prisons Project for the Provision of Technical Assistance, and Capacity Building for HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment for Prisoners and Members of the Non-Military Uniformed Services of the Republic of Kenya under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief.
The officer will design participatory training materials including curricula and IEC materials based on adult learning methodologies to address different TB/HIV interventions.This will include but are not limited to Palliative Care, PITC, PMTCT, TB/HIV integration, ART and Adherence.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Development and strengthening of training component of the program to ensure provision of high quality and accessible HIV prevention, care and treatment services in the Prison health facilities using GOK guidelines. Where guidelines are not available, should be able to develop appropriate curriculums
- Conduct training needs assessment for the prisons health care workers and uniformed officers and other consortium members
- Organize and facilitate trainings in collaboration with NASCOP for the Prisons health care workers, uniformed officers
- Coordinate implementation of programs activities including mentoring health facility staff on clinical care, counseling and education, community follow-up, commodity management, and monitoring and evaluation
- Building capacity of the Kenya prisons services personnel to plan, manage and evaluate program activities
- Developing and maintaining relations including representation with Kenya Prisons services {PPC}, DMOH, PMO/PASCO and HIV/AIDS prevention and care partners in the targeted provinces;
- Provide guidance, mentorship and continuing medical education to the prisons health service providers on HIV prevention, care and treatment.
- Ensure that the Prisons HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment project is implemented in line with the national polices and guidelines.
- Compile the required project reports and submit them to the Prime agency for onward submission to the national level.
- Advice the national level on gaps and opportunities identified in the course of project implementation Specific
- Diploma in Clinical Medicine registered with Clinical Officers Council
- At least two years of prior experience working with the Prisons/ uniformed services health department or health sector NGO in Kenya supporting Prisons/uniformed services health activities
- Experience in development of adult participatory learning materials
- Training of Trainers course in adult/pediatrics ART, PMTCT, PWP, STI/TB integration into CCC, DTC and Palliative Care. Being a trainer of trainers [TOT] is Mandatory.
- Experience in implementing US Government-funded projects and HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment programs, preferably in an NGO setting.
- Demonstrated ability to transfer knowledge through formal and informal training.
- Excellent interpersonal, program development, organization and management skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and work with minimum supervision in a complex team
