The Kenya Youth Parliament seeks to fill a 3-full Time Program Assistants, to help Design, conduct, run and manage new and on-going programs including planning of an upcoming conference scheduled for September 2010.
Detailed Internship Description
The Program Assistants will be managed by Program Officers reporting to the Executive Director. The specific roles and responsibilities include:

Coordination, planning, fundraising & organizational profile
- Take responsibility for a clear and updated agenda of all KYP program areas and communicate plans and progress weekly to the program officers
- Oversee the implementation of KYP projects/activities and reporting to Program Officers as required
- Facilitate smooth running of relevant KYP Conference planning Committees, liaising closely with Committee Coordinators and ensure their work plans are coherent with KYP objectives.
- Take part in representing KYP in meetings and events as appropriate.
- Work as a team to establish further projects as appropriate.
Finance, budgeting and fundraising
- Organize KYP annual budgeting, in liaison with Program Officers
- Prepare and submit narrative and financial reports to Program Officers, maintaining complete and correct donor grant files.
- Identify and liaise with potential new donors, for core and project funding opportunities.
- Coordinate production of all internal and public KYP reports and briefings, in liaison with Program Officers.
- Lead in the planning, development and implementation of the upcoming conference in September.
Qualifications, experience and personal qualities

- An on-going Degree or just completed degree- at least a bachelor’s in development studies/social sciences.
- Ability to rapidly acquire overview of technical and policy understanding of the governance systems in Kenya, if not already familiar with these
- Fluent written and spoken English.
- Good team player, with proven networking, capacity-building and listening skills.
- Ability to carry out research and collate findings in report form
- Ability to work unsupervised and be able to supervise all KYP networks
- Good organizational, communication and Information Technology skills.
- Good understanding of the challenges of running a program and Planning a Conference
- Good report writing and documentation skills
- Enthusiasm to take on a one year position, to deliver concrete results and follow-on funding within a 12 month period.
