Tanzania has made significant shifts in policy towards building a democratic society over the past 20 years. As the policy shifts, society at large are required to be active in keeping the government accountable for delivering on their mandate and engage in future policy discussions on development issues.
Oxfam GB is working in Tanzania with national partners to mobilise citizen action in demanding accountability by the state, ultimately resulting in better use of public resources and delivery of quality public services. We are looking for an exceptional Programme Coordinator who seeks to engage with active citizens who can demand their rights and expect to have good services especially in the areas of agricultural, education and within pastoral society.
The Programme Coordinator will lead the development of the governance programme within the Oxfam GB Tanzania country programme. With funding secured from “Accountability Tanzania”, project activities will. work alongside Oxfam’s existing education, pastoral and agriculture programmes to support local civil society groups and the community at large engage in the development process of the country.

The Programme Coordinator will have:
- A mature understanding of how to engage and mobilise grassroots communities and support their engagement in monitoring local and national development practice and policy development.
- An understanding of the issues impacting Tanzania generally would be an advantage.
- Experience in advocacy and developing campaigns with a wide range of allies.
- Will need to be able to demonstrate successes in previous work, preferably within an African context.
- Extensive experience in all aspects of project management, (assessment, design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, partner management and funding)
- Strong personal initiative and self-motivation, with ability to work well in a team and independently.
- Open to challenging existing ways of working and prepared to take appropriate risk, and encourage others to do the same.
- Good knowledge and awareness of other issues and areas of focus which impact on this programme, specifically Gender and HIV/AIDS.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and influencing skills, with proven ability to develop, write and present plans and proposals.
- Must be able to speak and write English fluently. Kiswahili is an advantage.
