Country Director – Kenya Country Program


Sightsavers, an international non-governmental organization that promotes the prevention and cure of avoidable blindness, and promotes equality and opportunity for disabled people seeks to recruit a mature, experienced, self driven, dynamic and result oriented individual who is keen to develop a career in a dynamic organisation and challenging environment.
Country Director – Kenya Country Program
Working with partners and within the existing policy framework, the appointee will lead and direct the country team to develop and manage high quality cost effective programmes which will achieve the expected outcomes and impact of the organisational strategic plan and contribute to national development goals.
Reporting to the Head of Program Operations in the East, Central and Southern Africa Region, the key areas of responsibility for the position are:

  1. Strategic Leadership. Ensure that strategic plans are evolved, delivered and contribute to the implementation of the overall organisational strategy.
  2. Programme Management. Ensure that programmes are developed and delivered by the Programme Manager and Project Officers are in line with the Country Strategy Paper.
  3. People Management. Develop an effective country team and implement an efficient performance management and support system.
  4. Funding. Engage with fundraising teams to ensure that targets for the Country Financial Plan are met.
  5. Financial Management. Ensure prudent management of organisational financial resources to meet set objectives.
  6. Planning and Delivery. Ensure effective planning and management of the varied components of the role within the deadlines set.
  7. Global Team Working. Collaborate with other teams and departments to contribute towards achievement of organisational objectives.
The ideal candidate, who should be a Kenyan national, will possess post graduate qualifications in social sciences, development studies, public health or a related field. A minimum of 5 years working experience in an NGO environment and 3 years line management is required as are skills in programme management, budget development and monitoring and resource management.
Proven knowledge of advocacy, research, partnership development and resource mobilisation is essential. He/she will also be a person of high integrity who possesses good interpersonal, planning, organisational, report writing, team building and computer skills.
