Background
Grassroots Alliance for Community Education (G.R.A.C.E) is a Non Governmental Organization implementing a program aimed at improving the quality of care for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) in three provinces, namely Nyanza, Eastern and Central. Through the program, 15 local partner organizations in the program sites have been supported to recruit more than 1,500 OVC into community Early Childhood Development centers, through which they are supported with essential services, including education, medical care, psychosocial support, protection, shelter and food.
The Assignment
G.R.A.C.E Africa seeks to engage a suitably qualified consultant or consultancy firm to train up to 30 people comprised of teachers in charge of the day to day management of the ECD centers and program staff of the 15 partner organizations in each site on ECD management. The aim of the train is to enhance the trainees’ skills and knowledge in ECD management and by extension the management of finances, communication, human resources and daily work at the centers.

Scope of Work
Specifically, the consultant will undertake the following:
- Work in consultation with GRACE staff (in particular the ECD Program Officer) to discuss the training needs of the selected trainees
- Draw from the above consultations and national guidelines and policies, and promising practices related to ECD and OVC programming to develop a training curriculum or program detailing the training content, with clear objectives for each session or module
- Based on the above curriculum or program, conduct a five day training for 30 trainees identified by G.R.A.C.E
At the end of the assignment, the consultant will be expected to deliver the following to G.R.A.C.E:
- A workshop report not exceeding 40 pages, detailing content of the training, approaches used, feedback from the trainees on the training areas and a list of participants
- Practical action plans for each centre with details on actions to be taken or initiatives to be implemented by the trainees to improve the management of the centre.
- A degree in education or related field.
- Proven experience in facilitation of training workshops for adult participants and focusing on ECD management and related areas.
- Sound understanding on the education sector in the country in general and ECD in particular is highly desirable.
- Sound understanding of issues related to Orphans and Vulnerable Children and HIV programming (including the relevant government programs, policies and legislation) will be an added advantage
Interested candidates should submit expressions of interest, which include:
- A capability statement detailing the consultant’s or consultancy firm’s capacity to undertake the assignment (including curriculum vitae’s of individuals who will undertake the assignment)
- A five-day work plan on the workshop, detailing specific sessions or modules, their objectives, summary outline of content and proposed training approach or methodology
- A detailed financial proposal, following the consultant’s fees.
For the entire duration of the workshop, G.R.A.C.E will provide the consultant with the following:
- Background information and literature on the relevant programs related to the assignment
- Accommodation and meals during the workshop
- Training materials for the workshop
