Our client, the Kenya Bankers Association (KBA) is a well established membership organization that currently has over forty members who are licensed under the Banking Act and is committed to building a strong and respected banking industry through dynamic leadership.
In response to rapid and constant changes in the operating environment, the mandate of the Association has been enhanced to better serve the needs of members and the Executive Council (ExCo) and in this respect the Association now seeks to recruit a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to drive this agenda.
Reporting to the ExCo, the CEO will be responsible for driving the achievement of the mandate of the Association, enabling the ExCo fulfill its governance function and giving direction to the vision and mission of the Association.
Key responsibilities of this role win include:
  • Providing thought leadership to the Council by undertaking economic and business intelligence as well as market trend analysis;
  • Ensuring labour practices, laws and policies are conducive to maintaining a cost effective workforce and smooth operations of banks;
  • Monitoring and reviewing any changes in local, regional and international trends, guidelines or legislation and proactively taking action;
  • Contributing to the outputs of various Government regulators such as CBK, KRA and RBA and this way ensure that the banking industry’s interests are addressed during development stages.
  • Developing an appropriate structure and overseeing the day-to-day running of the activities in the Secretariat and the affairs of the Association to ensure efficiency, quality service and cost effectiveness in the delivery of services;
  • Participating in negotiating terms and conditions of service for unionisabie employees in the industry as well as dealing with related Industrial relations issues;
  • Taking a lead role on cross cutting issues in the banking industry and playing an advocacy role on matters affecting the membership;
  • Serving on various bodies including – Federation of Kenya Employers, Kenya School of Monetary Studies and Kenya Private Sector Alliance to represent KBA;
  • Leading and developing a team that is able to carry the vision of the Association now and into the future.
The ideal position holder is likely to have:
  • A minimum of ten years progressive senior management experience in the banking industry;
  • A thorough knowledge of Kenyan and regional banking sector, relevant regulations and industry trends;
  • A strategic outlook and ability to network and influence at high levels;
  • An understanding of Industrial Law;
  • Excellent communication skills.
In addition to the above will have strong analytical skills, excellent leadership ability to motivate and steer a team in an envisioned direction, strong interpersonal and organisation skills and be a self-motivated and results oriented individual.
