The Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office of IUCN is growing its regional dryland portfolio as well as leading on the implementation of a number of global drylands initiatives.
This new and expanding programme seeks an energetic and highly innovative individual to manage and provide technical backstopping to a portfolio of projects with particular focus on pastoralism and biodiversity, and to provide support to the development of the regional drylands portfolio.

- Manage assigned projects in the drylands-pastoralism portfolio;
- Provide strategic guidance for the development of the pastoralist program portfolio;
- Coordinate global networking and advocacy on drylands and sustainable pastoralism.
Competencies and experiences
- A higher degree in Natural Resources Management, Conservation or Biological Sciences
- Eight years work experience, encompassing field work with pastoralists and policy work at national or international level
- Strong understanding of pastoralism as a global land management issue
- Demonstrated project management skills and fund raising experience
- Fluency in English with proven skills in technical writing for publication: knowledge of French or Spanish would be an advantage (applications from fluent French and Spanish speakers with an intermediate level English will also be considered)
- Excellent and proven networking abilities and interpersonal skills
