The Board of Directors of Allavida Kenya, a leading regional non-governmental organisation is looking to appoint a Chief Executive Officer to lead the organisation and its subsidiary KSIX – Kenya Social Investment Exchange, and be the organisations primary public representative, working in partnership with the board to ensure that the organization fulfils its mission and to create strategies that ensure its future success.

Board Support and Leadership
- The CEO will serve as an ex-officio member of the organization’s board of directors and all board committees.
- He/she will support the operations and administration of the board by advising and informing board members and interfacing between board and staff.
Planning
- The CEO will collaborate with the board to define and articulate the organization’s vision and mission and to develop strategies for achieving that vision.
- He/she will create annual operating plans that support the strategic direction set by the board and correlate the plans with annual operating budgets and submit both to the board for approval.
- In addition, he/she will develop evaluation criteria and benchmarks and continuously monitor the effectiveness of the plans in ensuring the long-term financial viability of the organization.
Programmatic Effectiveness
- The CEO will oversee the design, delivery, and quality of programs and services.
- He/she will collect and analyze evaluation information that measures the success of the organization’s program efforts, and refine or change the programs accordingly, in response to that information.
- He/she will stay abreast of current trends related to the organization’s products and services and anticipate future trends that are likely to have an impact on the organizations work.
- The CEO will also proactively explore collaborative initiatives with partners and strengthen the consultancy section of the organization.
- A significant responsibility of the CEO in 2010 and beyond will be to operationalise the Kenya Social Stock Exchange (KSIX), organizations flagship program in the Social Investment field, which has been recently funded by the Rockefeller Foundation.
Fund Raising
- The CEO will develop fund raising strategies with the board and support the board in fund raising activities.
- The CEO will serve as a primary person in donor relationships and the person to make one-on-one fund raising solicitations.
- He/she will be charged with diversifying the organizations funding base.
- The CEO will be held accountable for the development and implementation of fund raising plans that support strategies adopted by the board and the timely submission grant applications and progress reports to the respective funders and the Board.
Community Relationships
- The CEO will be the primary spokesperson and representative for the organization.
- He/she will ensure that that the organization and its mission, programs, and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders, and actively advocate for the organization, its beliefs, and its programmatic efforts.
- The CEO will act as the liaison between the organization and the community at large, building productive relationships and partnerships with peer organizations, the public and private sector both locally and internationally.
- The CEO will also be responsible for disseminating learning acquired for Allavida’s engagements regionally and beyond.
Management
- The CEO will oversee the operations of the organization and promote a culture that reflects the organization’s values, encourages good performance, and rewards productivity.
- He/she will create and maintain procedures for implementing plans approved by the board of directors, evaluate the organization’s and the employee’s performance on a regular basis and develop future leadership within the organization.
- The CEO will ensure the operations of the organization are in compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
Financial Stewardship
- The CEO will manage the process of developing annual budgets that support operating plans and submit budgets for board approval.
- He/she will prudently manage the organization's resources within budget guidelines according donor requirements, appropriate accounting procedures in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, and provide prompt, thorough, and accurate information to keep the board appropriately informed of the organization’s financial position.
