EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY WITH SAVE THE
CHILDREN SWEDEN-NORTHERN SUDAN PROGRAMME

Report to: Project Coordinator
The capacity building project that Save the Children Sweden intends to implement is supported by UNICEF
Khartoum Offi ce. The objective of the project is to enhance protection of children affected by armed confl ict
in the Darfur region through strengthening the Africa Mission in Sudan (AMIS) military and civilian forces’
capacity to protect children, from abuse and sexual exploitation. The project is part and parcel of an overall
UN interagency capacity building for AMIS aims at protection of civilians affected by the confl ict. The project
activities include training of trainers, training of AMIS military observers and civilian police, setting up child
protection system in AMIS, development of training and advocacy materials. The overall management of fi eld staff
will be the responsibility of UNDP
Requirements:
Candidates must have a minimum university degree in social sciences.
At least 4 years experience in training on child rights and child protection
Work experience in emergency contexts is absolutely required
Fluency in English. Knowledge of French and Arabic is an added advantage
Good computer skills in MS packages (word, excel, PowerPoint, etc)
Responsibilities:
The incumbent of the post will be responsible for all capacity building needs of AMIS in protection of
children affected by armed confl ict in three states of Darfur, Sudan and mainstreaming of child rights
in the AMIS system as follows:
Ensure overall implementation of project and logistical, and operational arrangements at fi eld level
Liaise with AU representative/contact person in Darfur States
Undertake preliminary and regular assessments of AU forces’ KAP on internationally recognized
codes of conduct and human rights standards
Conduct trainings including TOT and general trainings
Conduct quarterly sessions with a sample of trained troops to assess knowledge retention and
knowledge/skills gaps
Publicize AU forces’ Code of Conduct and promote confi dence-building between AU forces and
humanitarian, civilian and IDP communities
Collect contextual information and share with Khartoum Child Protection Team ( KCPT) AMIS and
Child Protection Working Groups in Darfur
Monitor AU forces compliance with established Codes of Conduct, assess AU internal response to
violation incidents, identify gaps and support the Task Force to strengthen internal AU policy and
accountability mechanism.
