The Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, University of Namibia (UNAM), with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Management Sciences for Health/Strengthening Pharmaceutical Systems Program (MSH/SPS), funded under PEPFAR, has embarked on strengthening the existing pharmacotherapy course; establishing a pharmacy degree course; strengthening research on rational and safe use of medicines; and providing continuing professional development pharmacy programs at UNAM.
MSH support to UNAM is provided in partnership with the University of Washington, a key partner in the SPS project.
1. Pharmacy Course Coordinator
In collaboration with the Dean: Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences and Development Partners, the Pharmacy
Course Coordinator will provide oversight and leadership for the vision, design, development, planning,
implementation and evaluation of the new pharmacy department, existing pharmacotherapy course, other
pharmacy-related courses, research activities and teaching programs.
The Course Coordinator will also ensure the implementation of an effective revised UNAM pharmacotherapy
course; coordinate, prepare and deliver lectures; guide and assess students; organize and supervise clinical
placement of students; participate in the selection of students; design, conduct and supervise research activities
related to the rational and safe use of medicines; and other responsibilities as recommended by the Dean: Faculty
of Medical and Health Sciences – UNAM.
Qualifications
The pharmacotherapy lecturer will ensure implementation of an effective revised UNAM pharmacotherapy course; prepare and deliver lesson plans; guide and assess students; organize and supervise clinical placement of students; participate in the selection of students for the course; and design, conduct and supervise research activities related to the rational and safe use of medicines and other responsibilities as recommended by the Dean: Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences – UNAM.

- PhD (preferred), PharmD or Masters degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences
- An advanced qualification in Management Studies (certificate, diploma or postgraduate degree)
- Minimum of five years practice experience
- Experience in research and publication; in teaching pharmacy students and in managing a pharmaceutical department/ program in a recognized institution of higher learning
- Proficiency in writing and speaking English
- Proficiency in the use of computer applications for word processing, spread sheets, internet, email, presentations and statistical analysis
- Ability to design and develop training curricula and course materials
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work as part of a team
- Strong organization, project management and group facilitation skills
- Familiarity with Educational Quality Assurance Systems and Pharmacy Course Accreditation programs such as the Namibia
- Qualifications Framework or other similar systems in SADC region will be an added advantage

- Proficiency in the use of computer applications for word processing, spread sheets, internet, email, presentations and statistical analysis
- Ability to design and develop training curricula, modules and course materials
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work as part of a team
- Strong organization, project management and group facilitation skills
