Public Relations Officer
RF: MKT- MAY10 -PRO
Reporting to the Public Relations and Sponsorship Manager, the job holder will ensure a positive image of Safaricom to the general public by fostering Safaricom’s ability to strategically drive the company image and respond appropriately to customer needs.
Key responsibilities:
- To respond to all queries in respect of Safaricom from general public, media, special interest groups etc;
- Ensure that collaterals for Safaricom functions and other forms of communications by the company are prepared and issued in line with brand guidelines and are aligned with overall communications strategy;
- Maintain and improve the Public Relations policy of Safaricom taking into account the internal and external changes in the market;
- Advise and recommend to Safaricom on possible outcomes and response scenarios based on strategic initiatives made in the year.
- To collect/receive and communicate information that may give Safaricom strategic advantage over its competitors.
- Prepare and submit weekly, monthly and periodic reports within schedule and up to standard.
- Degree in Marketing and Communication/Public Relations/ Marketing (Specialization in PR) from a recognized university;
- A post-graduate diploma in Public Relations would be an added advantage;
- Professional certification in Public Relations of Mass Communications (Diploma/ Higher Diploma);
- 2-3 years hands on experience in a recognized company in a Public / Media Relations role or Journalism.
- Excellent speech writing skills with good oral communication skills in both English and Swahili;
- Ability to listen, understand and interpret messages from various sources;
- Ability to establish/maintain good relationships with customers both internal & external and general public;
- Excellent problem solving skills with ability to make good judgment and decisions;
- Ability to interpret Safaricom’s strategic objectives and relate to public perception;
- Strong creative, conceptual and execution skills;
- Confident, intelligent, presentable, highly organized and conscientious.
