OUTLINE JOB DESCRIPTION  
JOB TITLE: Office Assistant/Interpreter 
LOCATION: East & North African Regional Office 
  1. Main purpose of the job
    The Office assistant will provide administrative and programme support to staff in the region office and projects. 
  1. Position in the Organization
    Responsible to the Regional Programme Manager 
  1. Scope of job
    To provide support to the Regional Office in Nairobi 
  1. Duties and responsibilities
    • Providing administrative support to projects.
    • Responsible for sign language interpretation during presentations, meetings, workshops and conferences.
    • Assist staff in understanding sign language.
    • Assist in reception duties such as answering and making calls, confirming appointments and welcoming visitors.
    • Liaise with Project Officers on providing regular feed backs on case studies.
    • Responsible for photocopying the office forms, and project materials and ensuring that they are available at all times when required.
    • Ensuring that project files are up to date.
    • Make advance preparation during staff meeting and other meeting that the office is represented and taking notes/minutes.
    • To participate in any other aspect of the regional office as directed by the Regional Programme Manager.
 
  1. DIMENSIONS AND LIMITS OF AUTHORITY
 
    • Expenditure will be subject to the approval of the Regional Programme Manager
 
  1. PERSON SPECIFICATION
 
  ESSENTIAL
Work experience/Knowledge
  • Experience of working in a team
  • Experience of working at a front desk, making phone calls, using internet and e-mails.
  • Experience or knowledge of working in the voluntary sector
  • Understanding of the impact of disability
  • Experience of interaction with schools, children, disabled children
  • Experience of putting together written reports
Skills
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good understanding of sign language
  • Ability to work independently and as part of the team
  • Ability to manage a varied workload
  • Computer skills, spanning Microsoft applications and other key data processing software
  • Social interaction skills
Other Factors
  • Ability to travel to schools and families to meet teachers and pupils and parents
  • A positive attitude towards disability
  • A genuine commitment to the values and ethos of Leonard Cheshire
