Program description: This program is a collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention whose remit is to conduct research in malaria, HIV and other diseases. To effectively carry out its mandate, the Program is seeking to fill the following position in Base ERP Section 

Position: ERP Technician-MR 7 (2 positions)

      Location: Kisumu 
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Diploma in Computer Science, Information Systems Management or other related field.
  • Microsoft SQL 2005/2008 Servers
  • Training in Microsoft Dynamics Navision 5.0 or higher ERP software
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003/higher
 
  • At least 1 year experience in supporting and troubleshooting client workstations on a domain OR
  • training users in the use of Microsoft Dynamics Navision (5.0 or higher) application OR
  • Experience on Windows Server 2003/higher platform
  • Working experience with Ms SQL 2005//higher server.
 

Knowledge, Skills and abilities required for the job:
  • Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team.
  • Ability to work within laid down standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
  • Ability to communicate well with users concerning their problem. Ability to solve problems in a stressful situation, for demanding users, under time pressure and sometimes with no help from colleagues nearby.
  • Fluency in both oral and written English language.
  • A motivated individual who aspires to meet targets as set by the program
 
Duties and responsibilities: 
SQL Database Administrator – Navision
  • Creating, modifying and deleting user accounts
  • Managing database users and security
  • Troubleshooting various database issues
  • Ensuring database integrity, stability and system availability
  • perform all common Database Administration tasks like performing backups and recovery infrastructure
 Dynamics Navision Technical Support Analyst 
  • Client installation of Microsoft Dynamics Navision on end user workstations
  • Creating end user roles and rights
  • Assigning roles and rights to end users and reviewing the same as and when required
  • Assist with the implementation of new applications, modules and upgrades
  • System Support - Responsible for day-to-day user support and ability to provide real-time remedies and ad-hoc fixes for issues as they arise. .
  • Training - Conduct Navision training sessions for new and existing employees
  • Testing - manage and maintain a testing environment for validating new program features prior to being deployed in the production environment.
  • implementation of change requests and enhancements in the system
  • In conjunction with the SQL system administrator ensure proper running of the ERP server, install updates and administer the server.
  • Liaise with the Vendor and troubleshoot locally any change requests or escalate the same to them where appropriate.
  • Monitoring active and idle users in the system owing to the limited license
  • Point person between the end users and the steering committee. Be the focal go to person for all Dynamics NAV support
  • General IT administration: Performing deletion on approval from the Head of Finance, setting up email notification, setting up users project setup
  • Creating new users at both SQL server level and in the Microsoft Dynamics Navision client installation. Mapping the users to the CDC SQL database
 
 TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Six (6), one year renewable contract as per KEMRI scheme of service.  Probation period for the first 3 months. Salary negotiable within the appropriate grade depending on education, experience and demonstrated competency.
