Youth Project Officer: Lutheran World Federation/Department for World Service Jobs

The Lutheran World Federation/Department for World Service is one of the humanitarian organizations operating in Southern Sudan.

LWF/DWS Sudan Programme has its head office in Torit, Eastern Equatorial State.

It has field offices in Ikotos, Eastern Equatorial State, Panyagor in Jonglei State and Kurmuk in Blue Nile State.

LWF/DWS Sudan Program is seeking to recruit for the position of Youth Project Officer to be based in Panyagor.

The incumbent may be required to move to other LWF/DWS locations upon request.

The salary shall be according to LWF/DWS Sudan Programme Staff Policy Manual.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and maintain the computer systems and networks of the Twic East Youth Centre
  • Install and configure computer systems, diagnose hardware/software faults and solve technical and applications problems, either over the phone or in person.
  • Ensure the smooth running of Face Book system and ensuring users get maximum benefits from it
  • Troubleshooting system and network problems and diagnosing and solving hardware/software faults
  • Mobilising youth in the county through a series of actions, either face to face, community meetings, in church or over the telephone to join the Face book initiative
  • Organise for training for the Youth on the use of various IT packages especially the use of Face Book
  • Assist the Youth in conceptualizing good business ideas for funding by the project
  • Guide the Youth Centre Management in identifying viable and sustainable business venture that will sustain the Youth Centre
  • Assess physical progress of the project and changes that have taken place in the lives of the target youth from project interventions
  • Assess the significant changes in the economic and social life of the individual youths as well as the improved role of the youth in contributing back to society/community.
  • Identify problems, if any, in project implementation and suggest/recommend changes in the program implementation strategy for future intervention.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of project cycle management, including development of monitoring mechanisms and indicators and experience of evaluation
  • Pro-active and willing to learn and follow up on problems till they are solved
  • At least 1-2 year(s) related working experience
  • Knowledge of SPHERE standards, humanitarian charter and NGO code of conduct
  • Good skill in operating Microsoft office, especially Excel, word programmes and e-mail
  • Good interpersonal skills, ability to understand English and knowledge of Arabic and language of the duty station will be an added advantage.
  • Good report writing skills
  • Experience in working with humanitarian NGOs is desirable
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to work regardless of religious, ethnic and cultural differences
  • Ability to work in team work
  • Ability to manage conflict problem
  • Willing to work in conflict area
Minimum Qualifications
  • Diploma or equivalent in IT
  • Proficient in Microsoft windows platforms and MS Office applications
  • Basic computer networking knowledge
