Project Manager – Uganda Job Vacancy: HarvestPlus - International Food Policy Research Institute

HarvestPlus
Breeding Crops for Better Nutrition

Project Manager – Uganda

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a Project Manager-Uganda for Harvest-Plus, a Global Biofortification Challenge Program of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).

HarvstPlus seeks to develop and disseminate staple food crops, which are relatively high in bioavailable micronutrients as a promising means to reduce micronutrient malnutrition in developing countries.

The initial target micronutrients are iron, zinc, and vitamin A.

HarvestPlus involves collaboration between ten CGIAR Centers and a large number of partner institutions in developing and developed countries.

It is expected that within five years, fully-tested biofortified varieties of rice, wheat, maize, pearl millet, and beans will have been approved for release in several developing countries. Biofortified (orange) sweet potato is already being disseminated.

The position:

The Project Manager-Uganda for the HarvestPlus Challenge Program is a full time position based in Kampala, Uganda.

The Project Manager-Uganda (PM-UG) will report to the Product Delivery Manager-Africa (PDM-Af) and lead a team of component specialists to accomplish the project goals.

The PM-UG will be responsible for implementing and reporting on the donor funded biofortification program.

The program is expected to grow by US $3,000,000 per year for the next two years and run for a period of about five years.

The PM-UG will be the primary contact for the cross discipline integration of the research, development, testing and delivery work on high beta-carotene (orange) sweet potatoes and iron rich beans in Uganda as well as other newly developed biofortified crops.

This will lead to an efficient introduction and acceptance by consumers/customers of the biofortified sweet potato and beans in all regions of introduction.

The work will include variety release and commercialization support to improve these and other biofortified crops.

This position represents a groundbreaking opportunity to lead a team in Uganda to be the first to roll out dissemination of multiple biofortified crops in a coordinated approach.

Together with the PDM-Af and the Country Crop Managers (CCMs) in the region, the PM-UG will contribute to HarvestPlus African programs on dissemination and advocacy.

Further full details about the requirements and specific duties and responsibilities of this position can be requested from the contact mentioned below.

HarvestPlus is interested in increasing diversity of its staff and particularly encourages applications from both women and citizens from Uganda.

This position is based in Kampala, Uganda and is a two-year, fixed term, renewable appointment.
