UGANDA MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE VACANCIES ANNOUNCEMENT  Uganda Management Institute (UMI) is a Management Development Institution with a mission “to excel in developing sustainable management capacity”. It provides management training, consultancy and research services in response to the demands of the public, private, and NGO sectors. In addition to short performance improvement management skills development courses, the Institute offers high quality career development management courses at Certificate, Diploma, Postgraduate Diploma and Postgraduate Degree Levels. The Institute’s activities are currently carried out at the main campus in Kampala and its Outreach Centers in Mbarara and Gulu. In order to carry out its functions efficiently and effectively, the Institute seeks to recruit suitably qualified persons in the following full time posts: 1. RESEARCH FELLOW (1 POSITION)(a) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:(i) Coordinating staff efforts to contribute to research goals and targets set by the Institute and also support staff attain their research interests(ii) Coordinating the Uganda Development Policy ManagementForum activities(iii) Designing and executing research projects and publishing results through international peer review process.(iv) Liaising with the teaching departments to ensure that research products are integrated in the teaching of students at theInstitute(v) Soliciting research funds/grants and providing staff with general information including databases on possible sources and modes of research funding on regular basis(vi) Organizing public debates, symposia and other events on development issues aimed at sharing knowledge(vii) Keeping track of knowledge generated from projects and advising the department on the potential for research and research publications(viii) Ensuring that post graduate research students have the appropriate opportunities and support to undertake and publish their research, individually or jointly with their supervisors.(ix) Supervising Students undertaking their Postgraduate Degree studies at Uganda Management Institute.(x) Monitoring staff in relation to research performance standards and guidelines and advising the institute accordingly (b) PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:(i) A PhD in Social/Management Science related subjects(ii) 3 years of research/teaching experience at post graduate level(iii) At least 2 publications in recognized journals/as books(iv) Evidence of supervision of post graduate degree students will be an added advantage (c ) REQUIRED SKILLS:(i) Excellent writing and communication skills(ii) Ability to initiate, manage and execute research projects(iii) Excellent interpersonal skills(iv) Self motivated person with ability to work independently(v) Team player able to contribute constructively to the department(vi) Coordinating and organizing skills 2. CONSULTANT/LECTURER (EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT) - 2 positions(a) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:(i) Developing high quality Graduate-level training programmes(ii) Marketing UMI training programmes(iii) Developing world-class training materials and case studies(iv) Facilitating on training programmes of the Institute(v) Evaluating the impact of training given to participants(vi) Conducting research and publish.(vii) Carry out consultancy services to UMI Clients.(viii) Supervising graduate students.(ix) Developing high quality customized short courses for practitioners (b) PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:(i) A Bachelors Degree (Hons) and Masters Degree from a recognized University/ Institution. The qualifications should be in a field of study relevant to the job applied for.(ii) A PhD in Educational Management or related fields is mandatory to all applicants.(iii) Applicants possessing relevant professional qualifications will have an added advantage.(iv) Should have at least three years’ teaching experience at post graduate level in a higher Institution of learning(v) Evidence of at least three recent publications will be required.(vi) Evidence of pedagogical skills possession at post graduate level will be required. 3. CONSULTANT/LECTURER IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION (1 POSITION)- GULU SATELLITE CENTER (a) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:(i) Developing training programmes(ii) Marketing UMI training programmes(iii) Developing training materials and case studies(iv) Facilitating on training programmes of the Institute.(v) Evaluating the impact of training given to participants.(vi) Conducting research and publish.(vii) Carry out consultancy services to UMI Clients.(viii) Supervising students carrying out research projects as part of their training. (b) PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:(vii) A Masters Degree from a recognized University/ Institution in aPublic Administration or related field and a relevant Bachelors Degree (First class or upper second).(viii) Applicants possessing a PhD in a related field will have an added advantage.(ix) Should have at least two years’ teaching experience at post graduate level in higher Institutions of learning or three years working experience in Public, Private or NGO Sectors.(x) Should have excellent presentation skills and good knowledge of power point presentation.(xi) Should be able to deliver high quality training to adult learners. 4. REWARDS AND OTHER TERMS OF SERVICE:Successful candidates will, on being confirmed in appointment, be offered five-year renewable contracts, a competitive basic salary complemented by housing allowance, medical allowance, transport allowance and an attractive gratuity scheme. Staff are also provided with support for continuous personal development. 5.
