Information Technology Assistant - Developer Job: Church World Service Joint Voluntary Agency (JVA)

The Joint Voluntary Agency (JVA) operates a US refugee resettlement program in eastern and southern Africa through a Cooperative Agreement with the Department of State/Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration.

JVA is responsible for the preparation of refugee case files for adjudication by Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) officers, as well as the out-processing and cultural orientation of all approved cases.

JVA is administered by Church World Service and is based in Nairobi, Kenya.

JVA seeks qualified individuals for the Information Technology Assistant: Developer.

Position Description:

The incumbent is required to contribute to the development of PC based Systems to meet the business requirements of the organization, with the emphasis of the position being on the design and development of PC based applications.

He / She will be responsible for writing and coding individual programs to meet specific requirements.

The IT Assistant Developer reports directly to the IT Manager and works closely with both the administration and operations staff.

Key responsibilities include:

* Interpret written business requirements and technical specification documents.
* Design, develop, test and implement software for the organization to improve efficiency and productivity.
* Develop and improve existing programs by analyzing and identifying areas that may need to be changed.
* Perform coding to written technical specifications which will involve writing new program codes from scratch or adapting existing software code.
* Develop and document test plans and carry out any necessary tests to the system to spot bugs in the software.
* Investigate, analyze and document reported defects and perform maintenance programming and correction of those defects.
* Create and maintain system documentation, both technical and user documentation, during the development of systems.
* Carry out maintenance and support of assigned systems.
* Offer user support for the systems as required.
* Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Experience Required:

* Bachelor of Science degree in either Computer Science, Information or Communication Technology and 4 years relevant experience as a software developer /Programmer or Senior ICT Officer responsible for programming. An advanced diploma in computer science , ICT with 5 yrs experience in software development will be acceptable.
* A certification in MCSD will be an added advantage.
* Experience in ICT Project Management.
* Highly motivated and a team player who takes initiative.
* Strong knowledge in the .Net and web development environment with relational databases.
* Strong knowledge in MS-SQL Database architecture, design and development, including SQL reporting services.
* A good working knowledge in the crystal reporting environment.
* Ability to interpret written requirements and technical specification documents.
* Flexible attitude, ability to perform under pressure.
* Ability to work well as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment.
* Ability to follow instructions from the Supervisor with a positive and receptive attitude.
* Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with JVA administrative and operational information.
* Ability to carry out all of the duties of the position efficiently and effectively with minimal supervision.
* Ability to conduct oneself in a professional and courteous manner to represent the best interests of JVA and CWS/IRP
* Ability to contribute to a team effort to implement the U.S. Government Operational Refugee Processing Program in Africa
