The Tanzania Forest Conservation Group (TFCG) is a non-governmental organisation promoting the conservation of high biodiversity forests in Tanzania. TFCG welcomes applications from qualified women and men for two positions.
TFCG operates a participatory forest management programme in the Eastern Arc Mountains of Tanzania. This includes the East Usambara Forest Landscape Restoration Project (Muheza and Mkinga Districts). TFCG are implementing this project in partnership with the WWF Tanzania Programme Office and Muheza District Council. TFCG is looking for a dynamic and experienced person to join the projectteam.
Essential Qualifications
Bachelors degree in forestry, natural resource management or other relevant discipline;
At least 3 years work experience in the fields of participatory natural resources management; Experience of working with NGOs and local communities;
The post holder must have a good understanding of conservation issues, excellent communication skills and be familiar with various computer software packages.
Fluency in written and spoken English and Swahili is essential and a good knowledge of the project area is an added advantage.
Duties
The Project Officer will be responsible for the implementation of project activities including facilitating local communities and other stakeholders to implement planned interventions towards forest restoration; promoting tree planting; providing training on forest conservation and income generating activities to local communities; and preparing detailed reports on project activities. The Officer will be based in the East Usambara Mountains, Tanga. The contract term will last for 12 months with a possibility to renew.
