Programme Coordinator - Education

Oxfam GB is an International NGO working with others to find lasting solutions to poverty and suffering in Tanzania and more than 80 other countries worldwide. In Tanzania, Oxfam GB is currently working in Ngorongoro district and Shinyanga region, focusing on livelihoods diversification, basic education for children, humanitarian intervention on drought mitigation and governance. Our education programme is based on experience in the education sector since 1990s. Oxfam and our partners have the ambition to improve the teaching methods adopted by teachers, in Shinyanga specifically, but with replicable examples that can be taken forward on a national level. In achieving this, Oxfam aspires to support citizens to plan an active role in the governance of their children's education.

We are currently looking for a dynamic and knowledgeable Programme Coordinator for Education programme to enhance the impact of our programme in Tanzania.

The role

Reporting to Country Director, you will be responsible in leading Education programme on achieving improved quality education with an emphasis at the primary level, providing specialist advice on quality education and advocacy approaches to Oxfam staff and partners. Additionally, you will be responsible for analysing and communicating complex information to a wide audience, leading the strategic development and management of the education programme including project development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, partner management and overall impact. To achieve this, you will need to maintain a detailed analysis of the current situation focused on identifying best practices and initiatives as a basis for long term improvements, promoting the use of consistent project management approaches and tools across the education programme, leading Oxfam's lobbying and media engagement and demonstrating an understanding of gender and diversity.

The person

The candidate envisaged for this role will have a proven experience of creating and communicating visions for programmes and strong knowledge, technical competence and experience in delivering complex development programmes at a community level as well as having national influence. The candidate will have extensive experience in all aspects of project management, including staff management, developing skills of team members, partnership and alliance building and delivering to donor requirements and community expectations. The person will be capable of working at both a strategic and operational level, have excellent communication and influencing skills, and a mature understanding of the grassroots and national development policy issues impacting Tanzania.
