Scholarship Opportunities for EAC Undergraduate Students - February 2011

East African Community (EAC) in cooperation with Arcadia University - USA is pleased to announce scholarship opportunities for undergraduate students from EAC Countries interested in African Studies especially International Law, Peace Studies and Development and other related disciplines. This program will give the students a chance to learn more about the region and the opportunity to share experiences with their counterparts from Arcadia University. The result of the exchange program is exposure to the EAC integration process, best learning practices and a widened knowledge of different cultures. The Undergraduate African Studies Program will be held at the EAC Nyerere Centre for Peace Research in Arusha, Tanzania from 3rd February to 28th May 2011.

The program includes nine
courses: Conflicts, Peace and Security in East Africa ; Public
International Law in East Africa; Women in the Emerging East Africa: Gender and Development; Health Issues in Africa; African Cultural Identities: The Role of Music in Tanzania and East Africa; African Cinema; Politics in Francophone Africa; French (Beginners); and Three different levels of Kiswahili (Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced Students)

Students have the choice of taking four classes out of the nine and the course structure will consist of class work, guest speakers and independent research. In addition, and in order to get the certificate, students will write a research paper related to Africa. Finally the program will include visits to various institutions in Arusha especially the international and regional organizations.

To join the program, Students must have completed at least two successful years at the university with first class or upper second grades; have good academic standing and not on disciplinary probation; and must have a good level of English as the program will be delivered in English exclusively. This program would also be perfect for those who have recently graduated in any of the relevant disciplines seeking specialized academic qualification in African Studies.
Scholarship awards will only cover program related expenses and tuition fees. Please note that recipients of this scholarship will cater for all other expenses for the duration of their stay in Arusha, namely accommodation, transportation and food, among others.
