Country Leader – TB Care I (South Sudan)

The Tuberculosis CARE I (TB CARE I) is USAID’s chief five year mechanism contributing to the global targets of TB control. TB CARE I received funds from USAID / S. Sudan to provide technical assistance (TA) to the National Tuberculosis Control program (NTP) of the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) and partners to support the implementation of TB control activities in South Sudan.

The Country Leader acts as the responsible manager of the TB CARE I office. S/he provides technical leadership and strategic guidance related to TB strategies,approaches and implementation to the project; coordinates and facilitates TB CARE I partners and external experts providing technical assistance; establishes and maintains partnership relationship with relevant institutes working in TB.

She/ He develops and maintains appropriate networks at the national level, within the context of existing agreements with authorities, TB CARE I partners, other stakeholders and USAID.

Medical or Doctoral degree is a plus; postgraduate level academic qualifications with training in public health will be an added advantage. Proven knowledge and international experience with public health and health services of at least 10 years is desired.

Proven knowledge and international experience in programmatic and management TB control in African countries of at least 5 years’ experience and demonstrated success in achieving results leading a National TB Control Program or TB projects.

Excellent strategic thinking and planning skills and proven ability to build strong relationships, work well as part of a team, and to incorporate views of other disciplines into his or her work. Demonstrate capacity to work in a variety of cultural settings, complex environment and fragile states and demonstrated leadership and decision making skills operating in a management culture built on consensus and results are desired.

Excellent oral and writing skills in English and in local S. Sudan languages are desirable. Experience with the management of USAID/PEPFAR projects is preferred. Experience working with Global Fund projects is desirable but not essential. Willingness and abilities to travel within S. Sudan up to 30% of his/her time and internationally as required. International allowances are available for this position.
