Project Manager, Telecoms - Nairobi

Our client, a renowned Internet Services provider that offers services in many pan African countries, is seeking to recruit a Project Manager to be based in Nairobi. This position will be responsible for managing projects within the region and with particular emphasis on the deliverables as per the set terms of reference, time lines and budgets. This position will have a consistent working relationship with all the partners, stake holders and internal departments in terms of sales, networking, operations, finance, clients, and suppliers.

The responsibilities for this position will include;
• Setting the foundation for each project by defining the objectives; developing its budgets and preparing the implementation plans
• Managing project plans and implementation schedules using MS Project and other suitable software
• Managing operations teams and external contractors during project execution.
• Managing relationships with stake holders through regular meetings and consultative decision making with regard to the project status
• Produces Project reports for customer and internal consumption.
• Escalate project issues timely
• Monitoring and controlling the project implementation process by identifying gaps and implementing remedial actions
• Supporting the preparation of tender/bid documents as well as contract negations with external suppliers.
• Assisting in invoicing clients according to the agreed milestones in the project implementation and the payment schedule
• Assisting with equipment ordering and payment of vendor/ contractor invoices.
• Performing regular quality inspections.

The ideal candidate for this position must be a good communicator (orally and in writing) with demonstrated very good organisational, structured problem solving, leadership and self management skills.

Required Qualifications and Experience
• Experience as a Project Manager in a Telecommunications and sitcom environment essential.
• Practical exposure in a project management frame work - especially (PMI, PRINCE2)
• Experience with Satellite and/or wireless networks will be an added advantage
• 3-5 years related industry work experience, preferably in a project management set up
• A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. Qualifications in project management will be an added advantage.

Required Competencies
• Experienced Project Management skills in creating and managing work plans; controlling projects in terms of risks, resources standards; and managing a proper reporting system
• A team leader with ability to develop and coordinate a proper working team
• A resource manager with good resources budgeting, planning and control abilities
• demonstrated proper Financial Management abilities and knowledge in revenue modelling and pricing modelling and billing procedures; and associated legal and statutory implications
• Demonstrated and proven abilities in Business Development through identification of prospects; designing of sales strategies; and leading the writing of proposals through facilitation
• Facilitates team and client meetings effectively through clear, courteous and formal communication that encourages exchange of information and internal learning.
• Embraces adaptable communication approaches that ensure that every team member and stake holder is well informed of the relevant developments and steps forward
• Possesses general understanding and awareness in the areas of Telecommunication, Satellite networks and IP technology and new and emerging technologies and the potential application on client engagements
