FilmAid International is a non-governmental organization that uses film to promote health, strengthen communities and enrich the lives of the world’s vulnerable and uprooted.

Politics in Kenya over the years have tended to generate immense ethnic conflicts since political parties in the country are dependent largely on ethnic blocs for votes. During past civic, parliamentary and presidential elections, voting patterns have largely been determined by ethnic affiliation and this has generated battles between various ethnic communities as every ethnic bloc seeks supremacy.

The youth have mostly been used as the foot soldiers in such political contests, with politicians adept at manipulating their poverty, real and perceived injustices, ignorance on civic and political issues and ethnic sentiments. During political contests, it is the politicians who set the political agenda and then hire youth for mobilization of votes, violence towards opponents and necessary protests and demonstration to push their agenda.

To effectively generate their own agenda and play a meaningful role in reconciliation, leadership, civic affairs and reform, it is critical that the youth develop a shared concern of issues that are important to them regardless of their ethnic and geographical background.
