Mumias Sugar Company Recruitment of Sub-Distributors

Mumias Sugar Company Limited (MSC) is the leading sugar manufacturer in Kenya with a market share of about 60%. In its leadership role, MSC has diversified into power production and currently produces 38MW of electricity of which 26MW is exported to the national grid.

To ensure that we remain competitive and sustainable in future, we are in the process of implementing our strategic plans including establishing an ethanol distillery plant that will produce 22 million litres of ethanol per annum and building a water bottling plant with a capacity of 20 million litres per annum.

These projects are targeted for completion by the end of the year 2011.

Currently MSC distributes up to 240,000mt of sugar per annum.

To support our product distribution, we are looking for able Sub-distributors preferably women entrepreneurs between the age of 35-50 across the country.

1. Financial capability

  • Produce bank statements for the past 3 months – MSC should be satisfied that the applicant can purchase sugar on cash for the prospective area.

  • Ability to secure bankers guarantee from reputable banks.

2. Already has existing developed network of wholesalers.

  • Attach list of the wholesalers indicating market locations where they operate from.

3. If currently wholesaling sugar, indicate current volumes sold per month.

4. Projected monthly sales of sugar for stated territory in tones, bags or bales.

5. Specify size of existing infrastructure for storage.

6. Specify and give details of number of vehicles (trucks and pick ups) currently owned by the business, to
distribute sugar.

Provision of Technical Assistance for Support to Community-Based Natural Resource Management and Promotion of Best Practices

Request for Expression of Interest (EOI)

The Association of Local Authorities of Tanzania (ALAT) is a membership organization that was established on 13 December 1 984 following the re-establishment of the local government system in Tanzania after its abolishment in 1972. ALAT has 133 members comprising of all urban and district councils in Tanzania Mainland.

The objectives of ALAT are to:

1. Foster smooth local government in Tanzania;
2. Maintain and further the interests, rights and values of local authorities in the country; and
3. Represent local authorities’ views at national and international fora.

The project ‘Securing Sustainability of LAMP Initiatives’ started in January 2008 and ended on 30 June 201 0. It was supported by the Embassy of Sweden and implemented in Babati, Kiteto, Simanjiro and Singida districts.

A key objective of the project was to strengthen and revitalize user groups within natural resource management with particular focus to the following four community-based natural resource institutions:

1. SULEDO forest in Kiteto District;
2. Burunge Wildlife Management Area in Babati District;
3. Latema Water User Association in Simanjiro District; and
4. Mwitija Water User Association in Singida District.

ALAT with the proposed support of the Embassy of Sweden plans to engage a single firm to provide technical assistance in building capacity to support the four communities to ensure sustainability of the natural resource institutions; create work plans on community-based natural resource management; disseminate best practices on natural resource management including those that were developed under LAMP.

ALAT now invites eligible consulting firms to indicate their interest in providing the services of a long-term Technical Advisor. Interested consuftants must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services i.e., brochures, legal status (registration/incorporation, business licences), descriptions of similar assignments in the last 7 years (name of assignment, name and contact address of the client, value, period covered) experience in similar conditions, availability of professionally qualified personnel to provide the services of a long-term Technical Advisor on community-based natural resource management.

Short-term technical advisors will be engaged as needed.

This is not a request for proposals (RFP). After a review of the expressions of interest, a shortlist will be prepared and the shortlisted firms will be invited to submit their proposals through a letter of invitation induding specific terms of reference. A consulting firm will be selected in accordance with the procedures set out in the Public Procurement Act, 2004: Selection and employment of Consultants Regulation, 2005.

Interested consultants may obtain further information at the address below during office hours from 8:00 to 15:30 hours, Mondays to Fridays inclusive, except on public holidays.

The deadline for submission of Expressions of Interest is Wednesday, 14th October 2010 at 10.00 a.m. local time at the offices of ALAT, at the address below. Expressions of Interest submitted in writing and enclosed in plain sealed envelope will be opened in public and in the presence of firms’ representatives who choose to attend in the ALAT’s conference room, immediately after the deadline.

Expressions of Interest sent by post must be registered.

Unique opportunity for an experienced analyst to engage in a long-term venture to document the political economy of development in Tanzania

Uwazi, a semi-independent component of Twaweza, and the Accountability in Tanzania Programme are seeking a Senior Social Scientist to lead the development of a ground-breaking knowledge base, documenting the political
economy reality of service delivery and resource management from the national to the local level in Tanzania. The knowledge base will use web 2.0 technology, and be housed in the Uwazi.org website.
The ideal person for this job is someone who has:
  • At least a Masters Degree in a relevant field (Political Science, Sociology, History, Political economy);
  • An ability to work independently and guide a team of junior researchers and interns;
  • A good knowledge and understanding of the political economy of Tanzania from the national to the local level and who follows current policy debates; and
  • A demonstrated ability to present policy analysis in a clear and compelling manner in English as well as (preferably) Kiswahili.

The society plans to appoint distributors in the following areas:

The Interim Independent Electoral Commission hereby invites sealed bids from local bidders (firms) to tender for hire of transport for the referendum.
Prospective tenderers may obtain detailed information and inspect the tender documents at Constituency Electoral Coordinators (CECs) who are based at each constituency during normal working hours, Monday to Friday 08.00Hours – 13.00 hours and 14.00hours – 17.00hours.
A complete set of tender documents may be obtained by interested candidates upon payment of a non refundable fee of Kshs.3,000.00 payable in cash or Banker’s cheque at cash office at the CECs offices in the constituency or at Regional Electoral Coordinators Offices payable to the Chief Electoral Officer, Interim Independent Electoral Commission.

Kenya ICT Board Grants - Call for proposals for development of digital content and software applications

This Call for Proposals is issued by Kenya ICT Board acting in its capacity to administer a Grants Management program for the Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC).
All queries should be directed to Kenya ICT Board (KICTB).
The GOVERNMENT OF KENYA has received a credit from the International Development Association in the amount of US$ 114.4 Million equivalent towards the cost of the Transparency and Communications Infrastructure Project (TCIP).
Credit No. 4284-KE
Project ID No. P094103.
TCIP will be implemented by the KICTB under the Ministry of Information and Communications. The Board therefore intends to apply US$ 4 Million of the proceeds for Grant Applications for the development of digital content and
software application.

Grant Opportunities
1. Government Information Portal
This Grant component will support the development of the existing Government information portal (www.information.go.ke). There is increased demand for the development of web and mobile based information services that provide Government agencies and the public with readily accessible and transparent content and data.
This grant will be utilized for developing;
a) Specifc content and applications
b) Innovative new content and applications
c) Urban and rural community based applications

2. Private sector content and applications including SMS and IVR and eServices
The purpose of this grant is to support individuals and fi rms to develop innovative communications and information applications that utilize web and mobile technologies. The grant will cover the expenses for service and content development as well as awareness building.

Grant Amount
The grant will be limited to a maximum of US$ 50,000 for firms and US$ 10,000 for individuals. The single currency for price conversions is Kenya Shillings, the source of official selling rates is Central Bank of enya and the date of exchange rates is the date of Call for Proposals advertisement.

Grant Duration
The grant once awarded will be valid for one year. Grant initiation must be no later than two months from award.
Eligibility
Kenyan Registered Firms

  • The firm must be legally registered in Kenya
  • The firm must submit the resumes of the project implementers and show that they have the required skills and qualifications to execute the project to completion
  • Must have a valid PIN number
  • Must submit a complete grant application form in English
  • Must submit a letter stating it’s capability to see a concept through to completion with reference to similar projects that the firm has successfully implemented (added advantage)
For Individuals
  • Must be a Kenyan Citizen above 18 years of age
  • Must provide their resume. The project implementer must have the required skills and qualifications to be able to execute the project to completion
  • Must submit a complete grant application form in English
  • Must submit a letter stating their capability to see a concept through to completion with reference to similar projects that the individual has successfully implemented (added advantage)
The Solution
The content should be neutral and not prejudicial to any group, race, tribe, age group and should as much as possible be inclusive, that is, accessible to persons with disabilities, non partisan.
The content or application must be accessible through web and mobile
The solution will be available in both English and Kiswahili.

VSF-Belgium - Assistant Technical Advisor

VSF-BELGIUM is an NGO working with disadvantaged communities to increase their standard of living and improve food security through improved animal health and animal production. In East Africa, our programmes focus on community based animal health services, training centers for mid-level animal health workers and sustainable natural resource utilisation.

Position Title: Assistant Technical Advisor

Project:
Livestock Epidemio-Surveillance Southern Sub- Project
Duty station: Juba, Sudan
Duration: 1 Year renewable

Role
The Assistant Technical Advisor will assist in day to day activities and standing in for the Technical Advisor during his/her absence and coordinate the implementation of the LESP Project in Juba, Southern Sudan. This will involve provision of both technical and strategic leadership; ensuring efficient project development and management; ensuring that systems and procedures are in line with VSFB policies, VSFB strategy, donor and legal requirements. The Assistant Technical Advisor reports to the Technical Advisor, Southern Sudan

Context
VSF B is looking to recruit a highly motivated individual that is capable of managing a multi disciplinary team and delivering timely project outputs.
Main Responsibilities
1. Assist the Technical Advisor in:-
  • Budgeting and reporting on the utilization of LESP funds with inputs in line with EC procedures.
  • Preparation of annual work plans, budgets and reports.
  • Support in policy formulation within MARF with special focus on integration of community animal health workers into the livestock disease surveillance system.
  • Support the timely submission of necessary reports and other documents to the donor in line with EC procedures.
  • The day to day implementation of project activities by MARF.
  • Supporting MARF in the formulation of policies and strategies to support effective veterinary service delivery.
  • The planning of LESP forum and project meetings as well as office administration.
  • Identification of short-term consultants
  • Supporting MARF in developing and establishing the Epidemio-surveillance system for Southern Sudan
  • Coordination with livestock stakeholders and other related livestock projects being implemented in South Sudan and state level
  • Improvement of veterinary diagnostic capacity for Southern Sudan
2. Actively supporting MARF by integrating the technical Assistance within MARF to define its policy with special focus on:
  • Effective veterinary service delivery, improving the links between the MARF headquarters and state veterinary units.
  • Integration of community animal health workers into the livestock disease surveillance system in order to secure a constant veterinary presence on the field.
  • Planning and establishment of the animal disease surveillance system, in line with the results of the current mission on the assessment and prioritization of important animal diseases.
Essential or Minimum Requirements

Education
  • Qualification in Development studies with post graduate degree or equivalent
Knowledge and experience
  • At least 10 years experience at management level.
  • Excellent managerial and coordination skills
  • Working experience with international agencies with good programme management skills.
  • Excellent report writing skills.
  • Working experience in Sudan desirable.
