Overall Description
General Description of the Role

The Hydro-geologist has overall responsibility for ensuring that all steps in locating, sinking of a borehole and determination of aquifer characteristics are undertaken correctly and in a timely manner.

The Hydro-geologist will also take charge of Water Quality Testing & Surveillance.
Ccapacity building of local staff, in the various skills involved in locating boreholes, logging borehole data, test pumping and reporting will also lie with the Hydro-geologist.
Key Duties

• Carryout hydro-geological and geophysical surveys at all selected sites identified and give technical reports on the same
• Ensure sample collection, labeling, storage, and lithological logging during drilling, designing the bore hole casing string, test pumping for all new and existing boreholes as directed by the Field WASH Manager.
• Water quality testing & surveillance along the Water Chain
• Take Charge of O&M of water testing kits, pump test accessories, geophysical survey equipment
• Advice Field WASH Manager on rehabilitation/redevelopment of boreholes as required.
• Coordination, Liaison and reporting at Field Level as will be described in the detailed job description

Requirements (Person Specification)

• Degree in Geology/Water/Environmental engineering or related technical background with special focus on ground water exploration
• Experience in implementation of development/emergency programme on rural water and sanitation
• Good English communication skills (oral and written).
• Familiarity with computers including email, Microsoft Word, Excel and Geological data Software Would Be An Advantage.

Geothermal Development Company Limited (GDC) is a large organization engaged in exploration and development of geothermal resources in Kenya.

The strategy will enable the country to realize an average of 210 MWe annually.

2. PRINCIPAL RESEARCH OFFICER
Reporting to: CHIEF MANAGER, RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
Job Role: To assist the research team in preparing, processing and analyzing data for scientific consumption.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assisting Research scientists in collection and collation of data.
2. Using the acceptable research analysis tools, analyze and arrange data logically for conclusion
3. Prepare and disseminate reports and technical Publications as directed by the Chief research scientist
4. Prepare materials for writing research protocols
5. Provide research administrative support to the department
6. Assist in the implementation of the research projects
7. Custodian of research equipments and tools
8. Review of all scientific papers incoming to the organization

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Minimum academic qualifications:
Bachelor of Science or its equivalent
Masters degree an added advantage
Professional qualification:
Postgraduate qualification in research analysis with specialization in SPSS or its equivalent
Relevant work experience: 4 years experience

3. INSURANCE OFFICER
Reporting to: COMPANY SECRETARY
Job Role: Ensuring that the Organizations Assets are adequately insured to her business interest.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Carrying out risk analysis of the insurable aspects of the business and advising Management accordingly.
2. Ensuring that the Organization is adequately insured to reduce on the risks
3. Maintaining an updated register of all policies and their performance due date
4. Ensuring that the Organization keeps abreast with the legal, regulatory and financial developments in the insurance industry
5. Promote cost effective insurance cover
6. Ensure that all Machinery, plant and equipments internationally procured and on transit are covered adequately
7. Ensure that all insurance claims are paid to the Company on time
8. Liaise with insurance service providers to develop products that mitigate insurance costs

Job Role: Updating, maintaining and custody of computerized Human Resource
Records to facilitate effective decision making
Key Responsibilities:
1. Maintaining records and information related to staff.
2. Managing the HRIS
3. Producing HR action reports and effecting salary changes.
4. Ensuring staff related records for management decision making are compiled.

Bachelors Degree in Social Sciences
Professional qualification:
· Post graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management or equivalent
· Excellent working knowledge of HRIS

5. METROLOGY OFFICER (MEDICAL PYSICIST)
Reporting to: MANAGER, ELECTRICAL METROLOGY

Job Role: Implementing policies and strategies aimed at providing national traceability of measurements in Time and Frequency measurements to the International System of Units (SI) in line with the corporate vision and mission.

Key responsibilities:
1. Managing the technical and day to day operations of the laboratory.
2. Maintaining custody of the National Measurement Standards.
3. Maintaining the traceability of the National Measurement Standards to the International System of Units (SI).
4. Preparing, implementing, controlling and reviewing laboratory budgets.
5. Providing calibration services in respective fields.
6. Implementing and maintaining laboratory quality management system (QMS).
7. Developing new techniques of measurement, improving on the current ones and promoting their use.
8. Achieving and maintaining accreditation status of the laboratory.
9. Achieving and maintaining international recognition of the national measurement standards, and the Calibration and Measurement Capabilities (CMCs) of the laboratory.
10. Calibrating industrial/ research equipments.
11. Developing and implementing safety procedures in the laboratory.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Minimum academic qualifications:
Bsc. (Physics), Bsc. (Engineering), Bsc Technology or its equivalent from a recognized University.
Professional qualifications:
· Specialized training in the relevant field of measurement
· Training on the ISO/IEC 17025 standard
