Program description: This program is a collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to conduct research in malaria, HIV and emerging infectious disease. This vacancy is in the Global Disease Detection Division.

LOCATION: KEMRI/CDC Program, Nairobi

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENT

  • EDUCATION: Masters Degree in Statistics, advanced mathematics, Computer Science or similar analytical field.
  • LANGUAGE: Excellent written and verbal skills in English
  • At least five years of hands-on modeling experience with at least 2 years at supervisory level
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
  • Strong skills with at least one of the following: SAS, SPSS, and STATA. Experience and skills with relational databases.
  • Extensive experience with (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as logistic regression, multivariable modeling, Poisson regression, sample survey estimation procedures, nonparametric statistics, and general linear models
  • Proficiency in the maintenance and analysis of large data sets
  • Questionnaire design for research studies and surveys
  • Field experience with data collection, management and analysis
  • Experience in clinical or public health research
  • Experience In developing and making scientific presentations
JOB SUMMARY
The incumbent will be responsible for planning and implementing data analyses for assigned studies, recommending statistical analysis methodology, performing statistical programming for study data, providing summaries and reports of studies as requested, performing questionnaire design and analysis and assisting in the protocol development process as needed.

S/he must develop an in-depth understanding of study design, goals and implementation so as to participate fully in the successful execution and analysis of studies led by the Global Disease Detection Division.

The incumbent will interact with members of the research teams, data management and epidemiologists in planning, design, conduct, evaluation, interpretation and presentation of study results and reports.

The job holder will develop and& select appropriate statistical methods for design and analysis of studies and projects.

The incumbent will supervise field and office-based data management and data entry staff.

Terms of employment:
A six (6) 1 year renewable contract as per KEMRI Scheme of Service. Probation period for the first 3 months. Salary is negotiable within a relevant grade based on education, experience and demonstrated competence.
